Camtasia Studio and SCORM in the online classroom

Professor Richard Campbell of Rio Grande University uses Camtasia Studio in his online teaching. To introduce students to the class, he provides an interactive video syllabus, created with Camtasia Studio.
In the video, Campbell goes through all the course requirements, just like you might on the first day of a traditional class. At the end of the syllabus video, Campbell has setup a quiz so he can ask students some key questions as well as ensure that they watched and understood all the information that was presented.
Using Camtasia Studio’s SCORM capability, the quiz scores are loaded into Blackboard. This saves Campbell a lot of time because he just has to upload one file into Blackboard, and does not have to manually input each score.
According to Campbell, “The great part of using SCORM is the ability of the instructor to track student engagement remotely. In a face-to-face class, verifying student engagement is easy. Using a Camtasia Studio movie is a way, in a remote environment, to verify both attendance in the class and understanding of the material.”
You could use this same idea to create a video lesson, then give students a quiz at the end.
