  • Fixed problem where the audio waveform could get out of sync with the actual audio after several cuts.
  • Fixed problem where attempting to save a recording would hang if the file size of the CAMREC file reached 2GB. CAMREC recordings can now exceed 2GB and the save process should not hang.
  • Fixed problem with producing to the MOV format, where the production could fail if the temporary file exceeded 2GB in file size.
  • Added support for QuickTime 7 and H.264 video compression.

  • Fixed Pack and Show wizard so that it doesn't ask twice to overwrite an existing EXE file.
  • Display frame rates as 10 fps instead of 10.0 fps since fractional frame rates are not supported.
  • The PIP track is now shifted, if possible, when changing the duration of a title clip using the right-click menu.
  • Fixed problem where using undo for a transition would switch the user to storyboard view, but subsequent undo operations would not switch back to timeline view.
  • Fixed problem where using the slider bar underneath the timeline preview window would not allow seeking to the very end of the seek bar.
  • Only warn one time if trying to perform a split operation where a split is not allowed. For example, you cannot split on the first or last frame of a clip.
  • Don't allow deleting of objects on the PIP track while recording PIP as this can lead to problems.
  • If you click the play button while at the end of the timeline, playback starts from the beginning of the timeline.
  • Fixed problem where the resizing border in the PIP view may be offset from the actual image displayed in the preview window if a large image is scaled down for use on the PIP track.
  • Fixed problem where dropping a title clip onto the timeline when the PIP video track extends beyond the Video1 track can cause the PIP track to be split in the wrong location.
  • Attempting to produce to a non-existent folder now prompts before creating the folder.
  • Fixed problem where the callout text could disappear if placed on top of a title clip that was next to a large dimension video and then the large dimension video was removed from the timeline.
  • Fixed problem where the Finish button on the production wizard was non- functional when the production path was longer than 255 characters.
  • Fixed problem where the callout duration could change briefly when dragging a callout so that it changed lines and clips at the same time.

  • When displaying the properties of a CAMREC file in the Clip Bin, we now show the screen and camera sizes separately.
  • Fixed problem where File > Save Frame As... could silently fail for videos with large dimensions. An error message is now displayed to inform the user.
  • Fixed rare problem where choosing "Modify PIP" from the context menu when the item is grayed out after selecting a PIP on the timeline could cause the wrong PIP object to be updated.
  • Fixed problem where the PIP "Shadow direction" option was not grayed out when the "Drop Shadow" button was unchecked.
  • Fixed problem where the callout sizing rectangle could be too large after resizing an image. This prevented the callout from being positioned flush with the edge of the video.
  • Fixed problem where a series of edits could lead to audio that was nearly silent, although this is not reflected in the audio waveform until after production.
  • Fixed inconsistent PIP placement when the recorded video was narrower than the default PIP width.
  • Fixed problem where a black PIP could show an empty black rectangle at the very end of a recording.
  • Fixed problem where attempting to load a project with a missing CAMREC file, and choosing not to reconnect the CAMREC file could lead to a crash.
  • Fixed problem where attempting to save a CAMREC over the top of another CAMREC file which is currently in use, and answering NO when prompted to try again, causes you to drop out of the process without completing the save. The recording is still in temporary storage at this point, and can be recovered. We now allow the user to enter a different file name for their recording.
  • We now disable the slider when "Use JPEG compression" is unchecked in the SWF options page.
  • Fixed problem where selecting the 7th or 8th video from the File > Recent Recordings could open the export dialog or import dialog instead of importing the selected recording to the clip bin.
  • Changed Clip Speed context menu to update based on the clip that you clicked on instead of the current position of the playhead.
  • Fixed problem where manually typing in a path to a background image for a title clip might not be applied if you tab off the edit box and then click OK to exit the Title Clip view.
  • Fixed problem where a PIP added on top of a title clip could be clipped so that only part of the PIP is visible after production.
  • Fixed problem where the font selection combo box loses focus after changing the font in the title clip and callout views.
  • Changed "Recommend my settings" for DVD so that it does not try to cut the frame rate in half when "real world" video is selected.
  • Fixed problem where the text is too small if you add a title clip after previewing a video with small dimensions.
  • Added "Use JPEG compression" to the production results dialog and to the profile manager.
  • Fixed problem where HTML output with AVI or WMV would not playback from the local hard drive in Firefox if the path to the file contained spaces. The same output would work fine after uploading to a web server. It should now work locally and online in both IE and Firefox.
  • Fixed blurry playback of videos when the preview was initiated by double clicking on the video in the clip bin or by dragging the video from the clip bin to the preview window. The problem only affected machines with ATI drivers.
  • Fixed problem where attempting to hide a PIP video for its entire duration could cause the first frame to flash briefly.
  • Fixed problem where clicking the pause button while a voice narration was in progress had no effect. The pause button is now disabled during a voice narration.
  • Hook up the left and right arrow keys so that they move the selection when the timeline has focus in the modify PIP view. This mirrors the behavior in the callout view.
  • Fixed problem where removing Audio 2 from the timeline did not add an entry to the undo stack.
  • Improved the speed of edits applied to transitions.
  • Fixed problem where title clips could be added to a locked video track.
  • Fixed problem where adding 2 title clips to the timeline at once would cause seeking and playback to be non-functional for the 2nd title clip.
  • Ctrl+A can now be used to select all items in the Clip Bin.
  • Fixed problem where extending a frame did not update the length of the timeline correctly. This could prevent the user from selecting to the end of the timeline.
  • The z-order in the callout list is now sorted in ascending time to be consistent with the other views.
  • File > Export Project as Zip is now disabled when the project is empty.
  • Changing the name of a custom callout is now updated immediately instead of after a restart of Camtasia Studio.
  • Fixed problem where Ctrl+Alt+Space was pausing the video instead of stopping the video as described in the menu.
  • Removed "Size to fit = yes" from the title clip description. Title clips are always sized to fit and there is no option to change this, so having this field in the description was misleading.
  • Fixed problem where the voice narration may stop about 100 msec before the end of the clip.
  • Fixed problem with duplicate audio and audio corruption after splitting a title clip where voice narration has been added.
  • Fixed problem where callouts were sometimes scaled incorrectly when scaling during production.
  • Fixed problem where opening a project where the source files have changed on disk is not being detected correctly. This can cause problems for the timeline if the newer video is shorter than the original.
  • The playback buttons on the preview window are now disabled while adding quiz questions.
  • Fixed problem where Undo could cause all quizzes to be deleted.
  • Fixed problem where canceling production and then restarting the production uses the wrong folder for the output.
  • Fixed problem where pausing playback and then resuming could sometimes cause callouts to display at the wrong time during preview.
  • Fixed possible crash when making a selection or seeking quickly while in the PIP modify view.
  • Fixed problem where it was not possible to use the TAB key or the keyboard to navigate on the first page of the production wizard.
  • Added webcam info to the Help > Support diagnostics.
  • Fixed problem where a quiz may not be positioned correctly on the timeline after rearranging the clips on the timeline.

PowerPoint Add-in

  • Changed to use the configurable temporary folder in Camtasia Recorder instead of always using the Windows Temp folder.
  • Don't allow recording to start with a hotkey while the Add-in options dialogs are still open.
  • Changed the IDs of the PowerPoint buttons so that they don't conflict with the IDs used by the Macromedia Breeze Add-in for PowerPoint.

Recorder

  • Fixed problem where the large screen warning would incorrectly display when the recording area was on a secondary monitor, and the primary monitor was arranged to the right of the secondary monitor.
  • Disable the webcam recording when "Time-lapse" recording is used. These options are mutually exclusive and did not function correctly when used together.
  • Fixed problem where the camera preview window was sometimes blank during recording.
  • The Tools > Options menu should not be available during recording since changing these options can cause the current recording to be lost.
  • When in Live Output mode, don't initialize the camera because doing so can prevent other apps from using the camera. Recording from the camera and Live Output are mutually exclusive options.

27 June, 2005: Camtasia Studio 3.0.0

Studio

  • Added Picture-In-Picture (PIP) tracks to the timeline. This is a second video + audio track. The PIP video on top of the other video. The PIP video can be resized, positioned, and faded in or out along the timeline.
  • Added the ability to record camera video from a webcam or other camera device attached to the computer.
  • Added title clips which allow for static text on top of a solid background color or background image.
  • Added better error checking for color and frame rate settings in the production wizard.
  • Added "JPEG Compression" option for SWF output. With this option enabled, the SWF file will be created using a mixture of lossless + lossy compression. This will result in a lower quality SWF that could be significantly smaller in file size.
  • Added a "Recommend my settings" path through the production wizard. This path will guide users toward production formats and settings with a high chance of success.
  • Added a Flash quizzing feature which allows users targeting the SWF file format to add multiple choice quizzes to their timeline.
  • Added the spacebar as a shortcut key for play/pause when the timeline or clip bin has focus. The Ctrl+Space combination also performs the play/pause function because there some cases where the spacebar cannot be used because it is already used for other purposes.
  • Added File > Recent Recordings menu to help locate recent recordings.
  • Improved the production speed for SWF output. It should be nearly twice as fast as in previous releases.
  • Added an Audio Editing toolbar to the main UI. This replaces the "Adjust Audio" view in previous releases.
  • Added an option to truncate long names with "..." at the end when producing with an HTML table of contents.
  • Added drawing of a ramp between zoom-n-pan key frames on the timeline to indicate the relative zoom level.
  • Added a line for the Custom Production Profile name in the production results dialog.
  • Added "Show Me" and "Assist Me" links at the top of the edit views. The "Show Me" link will display a brief help video about the process. The "Assist Me" link will take you to an appropriate topic in the help file.
  • Improved international character support in callouts.
  • Improved changed file handling to reduce loss of callouts, zooms, and other edits when the user changes the underlying AVI on disk.
  • Added an Email output option. This is currently only available after producing through the "Recommend my settings > Email" path through the production wizard.
  • Added a 3rd party hosting output option. This would allow users to locate a web hosting service to help share their videos. This is currently only available with the "Recommend my settings > Web" path through the production wizard.
  • Added Import/Export of project files as .zip files to make it easier to share Camtasia Studio projects with all the associated media files.
  • Changed the production to automatically create a subfolder for each production.
  • Allow user to relocate and reconnect any custom callouts when they are not found on the system.
  • Allow playback of the timeline that is separate from the selection. This allows the user to play the timeline without losing their selection. This also allows the user to select a region of the timeline to play. This is especially useful when reviewing audio on the timeline.
  • Allow Flash Hot Spots to have a duration on the timeline. This was accomplished by making hot spots a property of a callout. Previous projects with hotspots are upgraded to use transparent callouts with a 1 frame duration, and pausing at the end of the callout.
  • Allow markers to be moved on the timeline. A drag tolerance was added to prevent unintentional movement of the markers with the mouse.
  • Allow groups of tracks to be locked for editing. This allows some tracks to be edited independent of the other tracks. This is useful in combination with the audio toolbar and other editing functions.
  • Changed the File > Save As... menu shortcut key to be <ALT + F> + A. This is to be consistent with the use in other applications.
  • The Stop functionality was changed so that the cursor returns to the location of the play head instead of the beginning of the timeline.
  • Fixed problem where a temporary file was not being deleted when producing to RM format and canceling out of the production.
  • Fixed problem where manually entering a custom width could cause the height to be updated to zero.
  • Fixed problem where after modifying callout properties and clicking OK, a different callout is selected in the list. This was confusing and could cause you to lose track of which callout was being edited.
  • Fixed rare problem where sometimes the callout text would render all text in a callout with the same font, even though 2 or more fonts were used in the callout.
  • Fixed off-by-1-hundredth rounding error in the list of zoom key frames.
  • Fixed problem where you could end up with black bars on the side of your produced video if you added a zoom key frame and then produced at an aspect ratio that was different than the aspect of the source video.
  • Fixed problem where Edit > Split at all Markers would sometimes cause an image clip to split into more than the expected 2 sections.
  • Fixed problem where adding a zoom key frame near the beginning of a video clip would sometimes affect the zoom level of the frames between the start of the clip and the key frame a split second into the clip.
  • Fixed problem producing to SWF with "Basic" or "None" selected as the playback controls and using SCORM output.
  • Fixed rare crash if several transitions are added quickly to the timeline and then the user clicks the Finish button before the transitions had finished being added to the timeline.
  • Fixed problem where using File > Save after importing a media file could cause the .camproj file to be saved into the folder where the last media file was imported.
  • Fixed a minor redraw problem in the Batch Production Wizard when there were enough projects or files so that a vertical scroll bar was used.
  • Fixed the HTML "Alignment" options drop-down list so that it is not editable. This should be a read-only drop down list as the options are limited to those in the list.
  • Fixed problem where the Clip Speed right-click menu item was disabled incorrectly if there was a selection past the end of the video track, such as when the audio extends past the end of the video.
  • Fixed problem where callouts could be positioned wrong when producing a video at a smaller size and the "Stretch to fit" option was enabled.
  • Fixed problem where Ctrl+Space did not work after using the scrubber bar underneath the preview window while previewing an audio clip.
  • Fixed problem where Edit > Extend Frame would sometimes extend the wrong frame.

PowerPoint Add-in

  • Added a most recently used (MRU) drop down list for watermarks in the options dialog.

  • Added an onscreen record indicator as feedback from the add-in that recording has started.
  • Added the ability to record camera video while recording a PowerPoint presentation.
  • Fixed problem where an extraneous Import dialog could show if you did a PowerPoint recording with an unsaved project already open in Studio, and then chose not to save your existing project.

Recorder

  • Added the ability to record camera video while recording the screen.
  • Added a new Camtasia Recording File format (*.CAMREC) which is written by Camtasia Recorder and consumed by Camtasia Studio. The CAMREC format was necessary to handle both screen and camera video streams. The AVI format is retained for backward compatibility.
  • Added recording error detection and recovery. If a fatal error occurs after a recording has started but before it has been saved, we offer to try to recover as much as possible of the original recording.
  • Added a Recording Preview with Save and Delete buttons. This allows the user to preview their recording before deciding to save or delete.
  • Allow the addition of markers using a hotkey during recording. This feature is only available when using .camrec as the recording file format. The markers show up on the timeline when editing the recording. The intended use is for multiple "takes" without the need to start/stop recording. In this case, the markers serve as useful edit points and can speed the editing process.
  • Show the audio and camera toolbars by default. This allows easy access to some common operations.
  • Fixed problem where the cursor would sometimes turn into an hourglass if a drag-and-drop operation was recorded.
  • Toggling audio on during the recording is no longer allowed. This could cause audio video sync problems and often would result in long periods of silent audio.
  • Moved the "Record Audio" option under the "Capture" menu instead of being buried under the "Effects > Audio" submenu. This is an important option that needed more exposure.
  • Updated the TSCC codec since TSCC is now a registered trademark of TechSmith Corporation.
  • Changed default Fixed Region dimensions to be 640x480, up from 320x240.
  • Fixed detection of an open Windows Media Player when in skin mode.
  • This detection results in a helpful tip about recording content that is playing back inside of Windows Media Player.

Theater

  • Fixed problem with "Paused at start" or "Launch Menu after export" settings when you save and reopen a .camthtr project.
  • Fixed problem where saving to a folder of the form \\server\share would not copy all output files correctly and the resulting menu would not play.

MenuMaker

  • Use indenting on the Project Content dialog to improve readability for large menu projects consisting of multiple pages.
  • Updated to use new default MenuMaker templates.
  • Fixed problem where saving a project while no item is selected in the Map View would result in a corrupted project file. When this project is opened later for editing, it would often cause a crash.
  • Fixed problem where opening a template from the File menu could overwrite the default template folder in the Tools > Options dialog where subsequent save operations would result in the templates being placed in this folder.
  • Fixed problem where double clicking on a .cmmp file in Windows Explorer would cause some temporary files to be deleted, which could lead to exporting a project that would not play.

Version 2

21 February, 2005: Camtasia Studio 2.1.2

General

  • Camtasia Studio 2.1.2 released in German and English!
  • Updated contact info for Technical Support and Customer Service.

Studio

  • Fixed problems where the preview window would hang while editing some projects. This caused other parts of the app to become non-responsive as well, and often required ending the process with Task Manager.
  • Fixed problems where the production would end prematurely for some projects.
  • Fixed project compatibility problems for users who used CS 2.0.5 and had their "Regional and Language" options set to "German (Germany)" when the .camproj file was saved. These projects should open fine in CS 2.1.2 and steps were taken to prevent future compatibility problems from occurring.
  • Improved support for the Firefox browser with the HTML output options. Problems with local playback from a path that contains spaces should now be fixed. The frame resizing in Firefox should also be fixed. When the HTML is produced with a table of contents, and the Mozilla ActiveX control is not installed, the table of contents may not function correctly. This is due to the lack of ActiveX scripting support in the Firefox browser.
  • Fixed problem where the RM production would fail with the message "Failed to get video sample" if the temporary AVI file is over 1GB in size. This limitation has been removed for RM production.
  • Fixed problem where the output video could have black bars on the left and right sides, except when zooming occurred. This only happened if there were multiple zoom key frames and the video was produced at a different aspect ratio than the largest clip on the timeline.
  • Fixed problem where the viewer would sometimes see a blank SWF until they hit refresh on the browser. This only occurred with the advanced playback controls, when no preloader was used. Also, only on the very first viewing, and only if the first frame of the SWF being watched was too large and did not arrive at the viewer's machine until the playback had already started.
  • Fixed problem with the HTML template which caused a blurry SWF or cursor artifacts when producing a SWF with small dimensions.
  • Fixed a crash that occurred when trying to edit a "Square Callout" in a .camproj file that was originally created in an earlier version of Camtasia Studio.

MenuMaker

  • Fixed problem where non-image files were allowed to be selected as the background image in the "General" tab.
  • Fixed keyboard shortcut for the background color drop-down in the options for Camtasia Player.
  • Fixed problem where the Options... button on the Project Properties dialog wasn't disabling when the "Use Camtasia Player for AVI files" was deselected.
  • Added "Ctrl+Z" and "Ctrl+Y" text to the Undo and Redo menu items.
  • Prompt the user for a folder if the Directory field is left blank on the Create Menu Folder window.
  • Fixed problem where the back button would take the user back to the main menu instead of the previous menu if the author of the menu had added the submenu from the map view.
  • Increased the size of the font on the default "Muted Blues" template so that the font is anti-aliased at the default size.

Player

  • Fixed conflicting keyboard shortcut key between Play > Forward and Play > Full Screen.

Recorder

  • Fixed problem where the Effects > Options > Elapsed Time setting was not working correctly. Also, fixed a problem where the other system stamp options could stop working after switching between ENU and DEU versions of the product without uninstalling first.

Theater

  • Fixed problem where spaces would show up as %20 in the About box of the produced output.
  • Fixed problem where the up/down arrows were not enabled correctly when moving items in the list.
  • Fixed problem where drag-n-drop from Windows Explorer was not working.
  • Fixed problem where pasting a string of text into the About box was not word wrapping the text correctly.
  • Fixed problem where the "Export" option was not remembering the folder used on the previous export.
  • Fixed problem where the <F1> key was not launching the help file.
  • Fixed problem where the keyboard shortcuts (Ctrl+E, Ctrl+S) were not functional.
  • Fixed problem where escape characters in the HTML that was generated by Theater did not work in Firefox, Opera, or Netscape.
  • Fixed problem where the Theater output was blocked for local playback in Internet Explorer on Windows XP SP2.
  • Fixed problem where renaming the menu item in Theater also renamed the SWF file when exported.
  • Fixed problems where controls were cut off if Windows was configured to use large (120 DPI) fonts.
  • Updated the title in the exported HTML to reference "Camtasia Theater" instead of "Theater for Camtasia Studio".
  • Fixed problem where umlauts and other foreign characters were not displayed correctly in the exported menu.

29 November, 2004: Camtasia Studio 2.1.1

General

  • Distribute patched version of gdiplus.dll to protect against JPEG buffer overrun vulnerability.
  • Fixed install problems if the Camtasia SDK v2.0.0 or v2.0.1 had been previously installed on the system.
  • Fixed problem with Camtasia Effects optional add-on where the text shapes were missing after the install.
  • Fixed problems with EnSharpen codec which could cause systems with multiple CPUs or a hyper-threaded CPU to hang the QuickTime Player.
  • Fixed a problem with the TSCC codec and EnSharpen codec which were not unlocking correctly if the user chose the option in the setup to install for the current user only.

Audio Editor

  • Fixed the Audio Editor title bar so that it displays the application name and the name of the file being edited.

MenuMaker

  • Added .PDF to the file selection list as a supported file type.
  • Fixed the shortcut keys and the drawing of the focus rectangle in the color picker drop down boxes.
  • Allow umlauts and other international characters in a menu name.
  • After an undo operation, the size of the menu is now set correctly and the menu name in the status bar is drawn correctly.
  • Fixed problem where the status bar text could be clipped.
  • Fixed problem where all menus would use the "cursor file" of the root menu instead of the "cursor file" that is set for each submenu.
  • Fixed problem where the undo button was not enabled and the user was not prompted to save changes after modifying the project properties.
  • Allow user to reconnect missing videos after moving the .CMMP project to a new location.
  • Added tooltips for thumbnails in the map view. This helps in the case where the menu name is too long to be displayed under the thumbnail.
  • Fixed map view thumbnails so that they are always drawn with a 4:3 aspect ratio, regardless of the zoom level.
  • Fixed problem where tooltips for the back and home buttons would display even when these buttons were hidden on the main menu.

Player

  • Fixed a problem with playback of some 256 color AVIs in Camtasia Player where the wrong palette was used to render the frames.

PowerPoint Add-in

  • Changed the record audio button on the main toolbar to turn all audio recording on/off. Previously, the toolbar button only turned the microphone on/off and this option was confusing when the option to record "application audio" was selected. A "Record audio" checkbox was also added with a source dropdown to allow the user to select what type of audio they wish to record.
  • If the PowerPoint automatic advance option was selected, and the presentation was shown in windowed mode, a tip dialog would show while the presentation began to play in the background and recording would not begin until the tip dialog was dismissed. Now, the presentation does not begin until the tip dialog is dismissed and all slides are recorded as expected.
  • Better detection of slide transitions when PowerPoint ink annotations (pen or felt tip) are used to mark up a slide.
  • Fixed problem where the pause dialog flashes for one frame in the recording when the pause/resume hotkey is used to resume recording.
  • Fixed problem where having 2 PowerPoint presentations running at the same time could cause problems starting and stopping the recording.
  • The setup now removes the Camtasia Studio PowerPoint Add-in from PowerPoint's disabled list (if necessary) when Camtasia Studio is reinstalled.

Recorder

  • Fixed problem where the recording input volume slider in the recording wizard was disabled for some USB microphones.
  • Fixed problem where dragging the recording area around by the green flashing corners could be interrupted by the hiding of a balloon tip near the system tray. This would put Recorder into a weird state where it would stop flashing during recording.
  • Fixed text on last page of recording wizard when the Record/Pause hotkey or the Stop hotkey was set to "None".
  • Fixed obscure problem where the user hits the ESC key immediately after starting a recording which included audio. In some cases, the ESC key press event would be intercepted by a hidden dialog which was shown after the recording was stopped. This would cause the message "Cancel will delete the current capture" to be shown unexpectedly.
  • Fixed problem where the AutoZoom tip could be recorded.
  • Fixed window flashing in the Effects > Options > Cursor dialog.
  • Fixed the Effects > Options > Cursor > Shape dropdowns so they do not allow editing.
  • Fixed problem where checking "Enable Live Output" in the Tools > Options > Live tab would allow the user to open multiple Options dialogs. This could lead to a crash if the dialogs were closed in the wrong order. Now, only one Options dialog is allowed to open.
  • Fixed problem where the first page of the recording wizard would allow the "Record Audio" checkbox to be checked even if there was no sound card or recording device on the system.
  • In the Capture > Fixed Region... dialog, minimize Recorder while selecting the area to record.
  • Recorder now creates a 24-bit AVI when capturing a 32-bit desktop. This creates smaller AVI files with no loss of color information and also helps fix problems with 32-bit AVI files not playing correctly in recent versions of Adobe Premiere Pro.

Studio

  • Improved the ability to make precise cuts to a video.
  • Dragging an audio file from the clip bin or from Windows Explorer now switches you into timeline mode so the audio waveform can be seen.
  • Fixed drawing of callout fade in/out on the timeline if the fade was turned on while callout is close to the edge of a clip.
  • Fixed problem where if there was a transition between 2 clips on the timeline and the 2nd clip had a zoom-n-pan key frame on the first frame so the video was zoomed in, the transition effect would use the full zoomed out size of the clip instead of the zoomed in image. On playback the size would appear to jump immediately after the transition. Now, it transitions to the zoomed in size as expected.
  • Fixed problem where a PowerPoint recording could not be saved with the same name, even after using File > New Project in Studio, because the project was still being kept open.
  • Added a horizontal scrollbar to box that lists the output files on the last page of the production wizard so it's easier to view long paths.
  • Added automatic scrolling of the index in HTML output if the index is too long to fit on one page.
  • Fixed waveform redrawing problems with some projects or files.
  • Fixed missing icons in callout dropdown list on Windows 2000.
  • Fixed problem where spaces between words were not underlined in the callout text.
  • Fixed problem where it was not possible to reposition a callout using the arrow keys if the preview window was undocked.
  • Added "Move Up" and "Move Down" options to the callout right-click menu accessible from the timeline. This allows the user to change the z-order of the callouts, which is useful if the callouts overlap.
  • Fixed problem where callouts might be positioned incorrectly if the video is produced at a different aspect ratio.
  • Fixed problem where the tracking tooltip for the Audio 2 track might be positioned above the mouse and mouse movement could cause the tip to quickly disappear and reappear during normal use.
  • In the adjust audio view, display an error message if the user chooses "delete selection" from the right-click menu and there is nothing selected on the timeline.
  • Added HTML and SCORM production options to the Custom Profiles and Production Results dialogs.
  • When reconnecting files from a project that has been moved, check the current directory for source files before prompting for the location of the files. This allows users to move entire projects more easily.
  • Added View > Snap-to > Audio 2 menu option. This causes a selection made on the timeline to snap-to edges of items on Audio 2 if the Audio 2 track is enabled.
  • If batch production is used with the same project/avi multiple times in one batch session using different profiles but the same output type, we now append the resulting files with (1), (2), etc.
  • Fixed problem where watermarks and callouts were missing during transitions in the produced file.
  • Fixed problem where the zoom-n-pan box could not be moved using the arrow keys.
  • Fixed problem where the voice narration window would lose focus during recording causing the stop accelerator key to be ignored.
  • Fixed problem where a callout is moved to a clip with a short duration and then to a clip with a long duration. In this case the callout should retain the normal fade in/out times if possible.
  • Fixed problem where the HTML alignment option would be ignored if the HTML was produced with a table of contents.
  • When the user chooses Help > Purchase Camtasia Studio, select the "Purchase" radio button instead of the "Evaluate" radio button.
  • Fixed problem where the wrong help page was displayed for Pack-n-Show, Tools > Options, or Batch Production dialogs if the user hit F1 while one of the specialized views was open (Transitions, Callouts, Hot Spots, Zoom-n-Pan) in the background.
  • Fixed problems with output file names which included a period in the middle of the name (e.g. "foo.bar.avi").
  • Fixed zoom-n-pan resizing behavior when Keep aspect ratio is checked.
  • Fixed problem where the duration of the timeline was not updated after using the Image Duration menu item. This was causing the selection to function incorrectly until another operation caused a timeline update.
  • Markers and zoom-n-pan key frames must be spaced at least .1 seconds apart so that it is clear that there are 2 distinct objects on the timeline.
  • Fixed a problem where a callout from a saved project may change shape in rare cases due to the callout image file being saved in 8.3 format inside the project file.
  • Added a link to the bottom of the HTML wrapper for MOV output to instruct the viewer that QuickTime 6 or later is required for viewing.
  • Added a link to the bottom of the HTML wrapper for AVI output when the TSCC codec is required for playback. This link will direct users to a page where the user can download the TSCC codec (Windows) or the EnSharpen codec (Mac) in order to view the content.
  • Fixed a problem on Windows 2000 where the preview window could turn black if "Shrink-to-fit" is turned off and the vertical scroll bar is scrolled all the way to the bottom.
  • Fixed problem where after double-clicking between 2 markers to select that section of the timeline, subsequent operations such as a "Cut selection" or "Replace with silence" were not working.
  • Improved the waveform drawing time. The improvement is most noticeable with PowerPoint recordings or other projects with many split points.
  • Fixed problems where the SWF preloader hanging on a white screen when an image is specified in the preloader options.
  • Improved the speed of a "Split at all markers" operation.
  • Fixed problems with international characters not displaying correctly in callouts.
  • Changed SWF paths to use "/" instead of "\" inside the <MovieURL> tag so that the output works correctly on Unix or Mac servers.
  • Fixed problem where the RM Options page was ignoring the "VBR Encoding" and "2Pass Encoding" options and producing with these options always enabled.
  • Fixed problem where "trimming" a clip by dragging the right side of the clip was not removing the callout as expected when the trim operation spanned the entire callout.
  • Fixed problem where the "Copy callout" was disabled sometimes when it should have been enabled.
  • Changed SWF output (with no table of contents) so that it no longer creates a _media subdirectory. This resolves problems taking the output into Camtasia Theater, MenuMaker, and Pack-n-Show. This is consistent with how the SWF output worked in previous releases.
  • Fixed a problem where changing the dimensions of the preview window would affect the dimensions of the paste operation for a callout.
  • Spaces are now treated as non-breaking spaces in the HTML index so that spaces can be used to indent items if desired
  • Reduced virtual memory usage after previewing a clip in the clip bin.
  • Re-fixed SWF file bloat problem after multiple productions that was fixed in 2.0.5 but reintroduced with 2.1.0.
  • Fixed problem with red boxes appearing in produced SWF files when markers are used with the "Produce multiple files" option.
  • Fixed problem where the callout length was incorrect for clips where the clip speed had been adjusted.
  • Now blocking more 3rd party DirectShow filters which were found to cause crashes and hangs in Camtasia Studio and Audio Editor. This change only blocks these filters from being used in Camtasia Studio and Camtasia Audio Editor and will not affect the 3rd party apps to which these filters belong.

Theater

  • Better support of international characters.
  • Removed debugging error messages which contained only numbers.

  • Fixed problem where the cursor would seek to the end of the file after playing the selected region of the audio file.
  • Fixed problem where Edit > Audio Properties... was not enabled for an AVI file without an audio stream.
  • Fixed problem where the "Audio Capture Source" was not being updated correctly on some systems with multiple audio recording devices.

MenuMaker

  • Added the ability to create a menu project which includes sub menus.
  • Improved the Menu Content... properties tab to allow multiple items to be selected and changed all at once instead of one at a time.
  • Fixed some problems with displaying long menu names.
  • Allow per item fonts, colors, alignment, and other text properties.
  • This enables much more control over the look of the menu.
  • MenuMaker now creates menus using smooth anti-aliased fonts.
  • Added MPG to the drop-down list of supported file types.
  • The size and position of the MenuMaker main window is now remembered between successive runs of the program.
  • Fixed problem where unselecting the "Always use Camtasia Player on AVI files" continued to use Camtasia Player to play AVI files.
  • Fixed problem where attempting to save a template without supplying a name for the template would silently fail with no error message.
  • On the Menu Content tab, allow use of standard windows shortcut keys. For example: Ctrl + B for Bold, Ctrl + I for Italics.
  • Made the "Approximate disk space used" more accurate.
  • Changed the wording and layout on the last page of the menu creation wizard so that it is easier to understand and so that long menu names and folder names display without being clipped.

  • Added drag and drop support to the player.
  • Player can now handle AVI files compressed with the TSCC codec which have a file size that exceeds 1 GB.

Recorder

  • Added options to the recording wizard to help users select an option which would allow recording of speaker audio, if this option is supported by the selected recording device.
  • Allow recording past the 2GB AVI file size limit. If the recording session surpasses this limit, multiple files will be created and after the recording is stopped, these files are combined into one long AVI.
  • Made some changes which should make it more difficult to record the Recorder or popup tips.
  • Fixed problem where entering a number greater than 1000 into the frames/sec field on the Tools > Options > Live tab could cause a crash.
  • Added a tip about large recording dimensions. Many users record full screen and have their desktop set to large dimensions. This causes problems later when they need a smaller size for sharing the video with others. So, a warning was added to steer users toward smaller recording dimensions.
  • When recording Full Screen on a multiple monitor desktop, the user now selects which screen they would like to record. This helps prevent recording an AVI which is too large, and often not what the user was trying to accomplish. If the user wishes to span screens, the Region or Fixed Region options can be used to set the recording area.

Studio

  • Added SCORM compliant production options for users who wish to use Camtasia Studio videos with their Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Added the ability to embed a produced video inside of an HTML page.

  • Added copy/paste of callouts to simplify reuse.
  • Fixed problem where transitions always used black as the background color even if the color was changed in the production settings.
  • Fixed problem where the transitions were missing on some systems.
  • Added the option to set a separate "Fill Color" and "Border Color" for callouts.
  • Fixed problem where switching from timeline view to storyboard view and then back to timeline view could cause callouts to be reordered.
  • Fixed problem where upon entering the hotspots view, the playhead would jump to match the time of the currently selected callout. This change allows the user to position the playhead 1st, then add a new hotspot, which is the way most users expected to perform this process.
  • Fixed a problem where after using the Extend Frame feature on certain WMV or MPG files, the preview window might display the wrong frame.
  • Fixed a redraw problem where overlapping zoom key frames on the timeline might not be drawn correctly after moving clips around.

  • Fixed problem where CAMV files produced at 4fps were not playing back correctly in RealPlayer 10.
  • Added option to automatically adjust the SWF output frame rate if the current frame rate would cause the production to exceed the 16,000 SWF frame limit.
  • Fixed problem where changing the clip speed of one of the clips on the timeline could cause the "zoom level" to be incorrect, even if no zoom-n-pan key frames are on the timeline.
  • Fixed problem where if a callout had no fade out, and it ended exactly at the end of the video, trimming the end of the clip would cause the callout to be deleted instead of cutting the end off of the callout.
  • Fixed problem where a changed image file was not being correctly detected when opening a saved .camproj file with the changed image on the timeline. The changed image is now correctly detected.
  • Added a "Maintain aspect ratio" checkbox to the size page of the production wizard.
  • When View > Shrink to fit is off, you can now use the middle mouse button to pan the visible area shown inside the preview window.
  • Added a better error message when a user tries to open up a .camproj file that was created with a later version of Camtasia Studio.
  • Fixed problem where a zoom key frame in the middle of a cut section is sometimes drawn at the end of a clip, but never gets used during production. Now, when the cut is made, the zoom key frame is removed.
  • Disable Edit > Clip Speed in the main menu when it should not be used.

  • Fixed problem where the main window could be sized such that the preview window might hide the "Finished" option in some views.
  • Added "Open Production Folder" button to the production results page.
  • Fixed problem where putting one zoom key frame at time zero and a 2nd shortly after time zero could cause the 2nd key frame to be ignored.
  • Fixed problem where having 2 zoom key frames at identical zoom levels could cause the image to be slightly blurry between the 2 key frames.
  • Reworded the E_OUT_OF_MEMORY error to give the user some ideas to try which may help resolve the error.
  • Fixed a problem where moving a hotspot quickly across the timeline by using the arrow keys could lead to a crash.
  • Fixed cryptic error message when producing WMV with a profile that references a codec that is no longer installed on your system.
  • Fixed problems where the image duration was not always enabled or disabled at the correct times.
  • Fixed minor problem where the down arrow in the Image Duration dialog would sometimes jump by 2 seconds instead of by 1 second as expected.
  • When upgrading a .camproj file from an earlier version of Camtasia Studio, we now prompt the user and save a backup copy before upgrading the .camproj file. This way, if the user has any problems, they can still revert back to an earlier version and continue working on their project using the saved .camproj project file.
  • Fixed problem where decreasing the Image Duration while in the transitions view caused the change to be ignored.
  • Added new WMV production profiles designed for use with recordings made by the PowerPoint Add-in.
  • Fixed a problem where using the Tools > Options dialog, clicking OK, and then previewing a video or audio clip by double clicking in the clip bin or dragging the clip directly to the preview window could cause a crash.
  • Fixed an incomplete error message when a Target Audience is has not been selected in the CAMV options page.

  • Addressed a problem where the user gets "Unable to record audio" error in the capture wizard when Camtasia Recorder is configured to record audio in anything other than a PCM format.
  • Addressed an issue where the audio in the produced file was stereo for anything other than a PCM format, causing the file size to be larger than necessary.
  • Addressed the “File > Save Audio” so that it saves audio as PCM instead of using the format of the last video production.
  • Changed the default voice narration audio format to 22 kHz, 16-bit, mono to match the default audio format from Recorder. This helps to avoid upsampling of the audio on the timeline to 44 kHz which can cause "tinny" sounding audio.
  • Addressed an issue where audio playback might stop unexpectedly when one of the source clips has audio at 22.4 kHz and the preview window is playing back audio at 24kHz.

  • Addressed a problem where "Save Frame As" did not work when at the end of the timeline.
  • Addressed a problem where navigating backwards in the production wizard could cause the wrong file extension to be used on the last page of the production wizard.
  • Addressed the tab order in the Profile Editor Wizard.
  • Addressed an issue where an Extend Frame operation could cause future cuts to be applied in the wrong location, and other clips to be positioned incorrectly after an edit operation.
  • Addressed a problem where trimming WMV or MPG clips to a very short length could cause unexpected behavior.
  • Added better handling of changed files for the case where an audio or video clip is modified in another program.
  • Addressed a problem where changing the MPEG-4 V2 settings had no effect on the produced file.
  • Addressed an issue which allowed the user to split a clip at time zero.

  • Addressed the sort order when dragging multiple clips from the clip bin to the timeline.
  • Addressed some redrawing problems on the timeline.
  • Addressed a problem where after opening a saved project, the video objects on the timeline might not let you set a mark-in or mark-out point.

Recorder Enhancements

  • Enhanced the watermark feature in Recorder to match the watermark feature in Studio.
  • Addressed an issue with Recorder's capture wizard where it would always default to "Region of the screen". Now it remembers your last choice.

Version 1

29 May, 2003: Camtasia Studio 1.1.1

General:

  • Fixed install/uninstall issues according to the "Designed for Windows XP" logo guidelines.
  • Added menu items for Theater for Camtasia Studio and Converter for Camtasia Studio.

Recorder:

  • Added Effects > Options > Zoom > Show zoom rectangle during AutoZoom checkbox to allow users to turn this feature on/off as desired.
  • Fixed problem where Recorder would hang on some XP and TabletPC systems if recording audio (voice, cursor sounds, or keyboard sounds), the audio is NOT muted when recording begins, and the user clicks on the Recorder UI during recording.
  • Fixed a problem where unselecting the "Round frame size to a 4 pixel boundary" option and using the MS-MPEG V1/V2 codecs would create
  • AVI files that could cause a crash on playback. Recorder now handles this case with an appropriate error message before recording begins.

Producer:

  • Fixed frame counter discrepancy between using the forward and back buttons and using the left and right arrows on the keyboard. Using the keyboard sometimes caused the frame counter to be off by 1.
  • In the Audio Editor, removed an unnecessary warning message that appeared if the Audio Properties were changed before recording audio.
  • In the Audio Editor, File > Split > Save Audio As... was mistakenly disabled after a File > Split > Save Video As... operation.
  • Fixed a problem which would cause the top and bottom of a video to be clipped if the user produced at a smaller size, with a different aspect ratio, and "Stretch to fit" was not checked.
  • Fixed issue where the color picker dialogs weren't initialized with the currently selected color in the SWF advanced playback controls options dialog.
  • Fixed an issue where the slider range on the timeline would not update properly when audio was added to a still image.
  • Fixed an issue where the movie duration in the SWF advanced playback controls might display 00:00 / 00:00 for the entire movie the first time it was played after moving to a web server.

Effects:

  • Fixed crash where after adding a new object, the object name was changed in the object list.

MenuMaker:

  • If the user opened a template file (.CMMTPL) and then hit the save toolbar button (which is a shortcut for File > Save Project), the file that is saved is actually a project file, but the file name and file extension remained the same (.CMMTPL). This has been corrected. By design, the user is always editing a project (.CMMP) even if they begin the project from a template. At any point, the user can save their current project as a template using File > Save As Template.
  • When using File > Save As Template, spaces in the menu name are no longer replaced with underscores. This makes it easier to save a template with spaces in the file name.
