The saying "room for improvement" is heard often throughout the halls of TechSmith. If you have used our products for long, I hope that you have received customer surveys, noticed our feedback forms online, and seen how much we value and ask for customer input.
We believe there are always ways to make our offerings better and I hope you see that in our product releases. This month, we have Snagit 9.1. If you have used any version of Snagit prior to 9, you know how big of a change version 9 was. We received a lot of customer feedback on these changes and worked on improvements based on those comments. You can see these enhancements when you perform the upgrade to Snagit 9.1.
Same goes for Jing. We started out with the free Jing Project. We received numerous feature requests and had a pretty constant stream of customers who were hoping we would not change the fact that Jing Project was free. Jing Pro and Jing (without the Project) are now available. And, yes, Jing is still free.
Read on to find out more about Snagit 9.1 and Jing Pro and please, keep the feedback coming! You can always email me or here is a link to that feedback form I mentioned.
And while we are on the topic, thank you for all the responses regarding our Camtasia Studio and SCORM article in the November newsletter. I am working on a list of SCORM resources for the more popular LMS's and will be sharing that with you next month.
Enjoy!

P.S. - Check out FETC 2009 on us! We have some free passes to FETC 2009 in Orlando. These will get you into the keynote and the exhibit hall on Thursday, January 22nd. I have to sign and fax it to you so email me if you are interested.

With version 9, we rebuilt Snagit Editor from the ground up. We've received your feedback... and we listened. Snagit 9.1 offers improvements to the improvements of version 9.0.
Along with a whole new look and a lower-case i, you will enjoy these new features of Snagit 9.1:
- Mini Toolbar - Eliminate extra clicks and keep the most frequently used editing features at your fingertips.
- Live Preview - Try on different editing options by scrolling over your capture and seeing what a torn edge or shadow would look like...before you commit to the change.
- Auto-store Export - Changing computers? Not to worry, you can take all your unsaved captures with you.
- Stamps - Categories and visual search make your favorite stamps easier than ever to find.
If you own Snagit 9, grab your free update here and install it right over the top of Snagit 9. It will recognize your existing license key.
And if you're still on an older version, take a look at all the sweet features that could be yours for a little less than $25 (single-user upgrade price for personal/business use).
Are you using Snagit 9.0 or 9.1 in your teaching? Tell me how so I can share your story.

Jing Pro brings you simply the best-in-class experience for quick visual online conversation. Record up to 5 minutes of video just like you have with Jing but if you choose to purchase Jing Pro, you'll also have these features:
- Record full-motion video - Jing Pro uses a premium video format (MPEG-4 AVC) that's better at recording rich content from your screen.
- Share faster with smaller video files - Produce tidy, compact files that are quicker to upload and download. Save time, save bandwidth.
- Upload straight to YouTube - With Jing Pro, you get a button for directly uploading videos to YouTube. And the new format plays nice on Vimeo, Viddler, and Facebook...so you can manually upload videos there, as well.
- Strip Jing logos & links from your videos - That Jing branding you see at the beginning and end of your videos? With Jing Pro...it's gone. And you can edit those videos with Camtasia Studio 6.0.1, too!
The free version of Jing is still available and we even added a couple new things, like the option to customize Jing's buttons, so you can keep your favorite sharing destinations handy. And videos can now be resized. (Details)

Sending a file attachment through email or chat can be messy. Half the time, people can't open it. But sending a link works great, every time!
Download the new Screencast.com output and start using it to post Snagit screen captures directly to the web with just a click.
Then share a link to your capture in an email, IM chat, forum post, wherever. When someone clicks the link, they see your capture...without having to approve, open, or save any attachments!
That means you can avoid those pesky virus warnings and the dreaded "I couldn't open your attachment" syndrome. Plus you can use visuals in places that don't accept file attachments, like Twitter or blog comments. |

Perhaps best of all, you can use all the advanced features of Screencast.com when sharing your images!
For example...post a screenshot for review and let everyone on your team add comments—instead of creating the usual "reply all" pile-on. Post screenshots of what you're working on throughout the week and have your boss subscribe to the RSS feed to see the latest. Send your captures to folders with restricted access to keep confidential info safe from prying eyes.
This output is free and runs on Snagit 8.2 or later. And since Screencast.com now has a free, non-expiring account, you've got nothing to lose and everything to gain!

Markers are a great way to help organize your video or to remind yourself of something you thought about while creating the recording. Here are a few examples of how you might use markers:
- Create recording notes. For example, mark a pause in the recording to cut out during editing.
- Set points to split a long video into multiple videos.
- Create navigation points. If you include a table of contents in the final video, the markers appear as table of contents entries.
This tutorial will show you how to create markers while recording or during the editing of your Camtasia Studio video.
