| Letter from the Editor: More on the upcoming newsletter change |

Starting next month, our five English-language newsletters will be replaced by a single newsletter with customizable content. You will be able to choose the content—by type and by product—that is relevant to you.
Every subscriber will receive a few of the same core items that we deem "of general interest" (Letter from the Editor, product announcements)...but beyond that you'll be able to choose the tutorials and customer stories you'll receive, based on which product(s) you're interested in.
And if you subscribe via RSS instead of email, your feed will be dynamically created, too.
You'll receive a separate email later this month with a link to select your preferences...so keep an eye out for that. And, as always, let us know what you think!
One more piece of news that I wanted to tell you is that we have released a new version of Morae. With 3.1, we've added a lot of great features, you can get the details here. If you are already using Morae 3.0, the upgrade to 3.1 is free!

Jing is free...and so is the latest update! Current Jing users will get the update automatically; everyone else can download Jing here (Mac/PC).
If you've used Jing, you know that it's all about lightning-fast screen capture and recording—with instant sharing!
Here's the full rundown of new-ness in this Jing update:
Output to Snagit & Camtasia Studio
Send your Jings to Snagit or Camtasia Studio and edit like a pro. Use Snagit to edit screen captures and Camtasia Studio to edit screencast videos and produce them in various file formats. So if you start a screen capture with Jing and realize you need more editing muscle...just click to send the image directly to Snagit editor! (See how...)
Aspect ratio
No more wasting time resizing those images or videos, now you can know for sure that your Jing captures will fit right into your blog, website, or wherever you want them. Just hold down the Ctrl key (for standard sizes) or Shift key (for widescreen sizes) while selecting a region. (See how...)
Enable commenting on your Jing content
Want feedback or discussion about your Jings? When you share your stuff through Screencast.com, you can now enable commenting on that content from within Jing!
Share to different Screencast.com folders
You can now choose to share your stuff to any folder you have set up within Screencast.com. Just create a new button for each different folder (Jing allows up to 8 unique buttons). Want to keep personal and work stuff separate? Now you can!
And for Jing Pro users only...
Webcam capture
Put yourself in the picture! Provide a quick "in person" intro to your videos, send video postcards to your kids away at school, or even show off your latest big purchase by recording with your web camera. (See it in action...)

| Community: Snagit and Camtasia Studio tips, via Twitter |

The TechSmith training team is now on Twitter, fielding questions and helping customers however they can.
(Twitter is that web service you've probably heard about, where people post instant updates about what they're doing.)
Sometimes the trainers will create an off-the-cuff screencast that answers a specific question or exposes a handy-but-hidden feature like Snagit's eyedropper color matching tool (see links at right).
And guess what?
|

Sample tip: Match colors with eyedropper tool

You don't need to be Twitter user to benefit from the tips we're posting on Twitter. You can just bookmark the webpage for Snagit or Camtasia Studio and come back occasionally to see what's new...or add the RSS feeds to your reader.
If you are a Twitter user, however, you can tweet @SnagitTips for help if you get stuck when using Snagit, or @CamtasiaTips for Camtasia Studio. Or just say hello!

As an Education Newsletter subscriber, you have no doubt heard of Camtasia Studio. But maybe the software seems intimidating? Or maybe you are just too busy teaching to find time to learn it? With summer here, it's a great time to check it out and see what Camtasia Studio can do in your classroom.
And we've got the resources ready to help you.
Now you can create a simple screencast from start to finish with our new, printable guide: First Walkthrough: Fundamentals of Camtasia Studio (PDF). It's based on the same materials our training team uses at live training events.
We walk you step-by-step through recording, editing, and publishing. You can even follow a pre-fabbed script, so you don't have to decide what to say and do during recording. At the end of the session, you will have successfully created a screencast!
But how might you use Camtasia Studio? There really are a million different ways...
- Record yourself as you grade, offering students better feedback.
- Make a video of your PowerPoint presentation for students who miss class.
- Enhance online learning by offering a video of lectures.
Those are just a few.
We also have a Learning Center chock full of how-tos. Let us know if you don't find what you are looking for!

If you're producing a series of screencasts and want your viewers to be able to subscribe and get the latest video using iTunes...this tutorial is for you.
These steps show you how to 1) produce your screencast in an iTunes-friendly format using Camtasia Studio, 2) send it to Screencast.com, 3) set up your Screencast.com folder so it's accessible to iTunes, and 4) submit that folder and the videos inside it to the iTunes Store. |
 |
It's really pretty simple...and once you've set it up the first time, you can just upload future videos to the same Screencast.com folder...and anyone who subscribes to your "podcast" using iTunes will automatically get those videos!
Things you need to complete this tutorial...
- Camtasia Studio 6.0 or higher. If you do not have Camtasia Studio 6.0 or higher, you can download the trial.
- A Screencast.com account. If you don't have one, you can sign up for a free account.
- The iTunes application installed on your computer.
- An iTunes account to upload to the iTunes Store.
- A video project to be produced and uploaded to the iTunes store.

| Camtasia Studio Tutorial: Give your video a table of contents |

Adding a Table of Contents (ToC) to your video is helpful to viewers.
Why? Because they get a clear idea of the video's contents at a glance. And they can instantly jump to the content they want to view (or review). A ToC is especially helpful for longer videos.
This tutorial (both written and video) shows you how to set markers throughout your video that Camtasia Studio uses to automatically create each "chapter" in the table of contents.
You can dress up the ToC by adding a logo or other image at the top. And you can choose whether you want the ToC to show up along the right or left side of your video...or as a floating menu that the viewer toggles on and off. |
 |
Please note: if you want to sequence multiple videos using a table of contents, you should use Camtasia Theater instead.
(Like this tutorial? Hate it? Confused by it? Please tell us...)
