Chad Wandler TechSmith Unveils SnagIt 5.2 Imaging Software with Breakthrough Capabilities for Corporate Training, Help Desk, Web DevelopmentLeading Screen Capture Solution Enhanced with Highly Anticipated Flexibility, Usability Innovations for Business Users East Lansing, Michigan, June 21, 2001 -- TechSmith Corp., the leading provider of screen capture technology since 1990, today announced a major release of its flagship software, SnagIt. The new offering, SnagIt 5.2, includes groundbreaking capabilities that address the growing demand among corporate trainers, enterprise help desks, technical support staff, and Web developers for imaging technology that enables them to communicate more effectively and universally with business users, customers, colleagues, and students. "SnagIt's flexibility and real-world practicality, combined with continual innovation over the past decade, have made it the #1 screen capture solution in the world," said William Hamilton, TechSmith's chief executive officer. "With SnagIt 5.2, new capabilities extend the user's ability to capture specific shapes, formats and even schedule captures at opportune moments. The net result is a total solution for professionals who rely on images to convey ideas that may be difficult to communicate in words. It's the ideal 'assistant' for anyone who teaches, trains or troubleshoots, or develops Web content." SnagIt captures displays on the desktop, such as DOS screens, windows, menus and toolbars, as well as Web images and error messages. The captured content can be sent to printers, transferred via FTP, saved to disk or forwarded via e-mail. The images are used to identify problems and explain solutions, communicate difficult concepts, train employees and customers, and enrich the usability of software and Web sites. Among the prominent new features in SnagIt 5.2 are:
Other important enhancements include: TWAIN support which allows users to capture and edit images from scanners and digital cameras; a zoom window to magnify the area around the cursor for more precise captures; multiple-region captures so users can capture separate parts of an image; and enhanced image processing so users can trim captures or add watermarks, borders, annotations, and special effects. "SnagIt has the usability and robust feature set that make it an ideal communication aid," said Shaan Hurley, project engineer for beta programs at Autodesk. "The wide variety of input and output formats, and the limitless range of options to highlight and manipulate images, allows me to significantly accelerate application development and problem solving. It simplifies the way in which I communicate with both developers and customers. I use SnagIt everyday, and it's become an invaluable tool that improves my own productivity, my team's productivity, and increases customer satisfaction."
