TechSmith Releases Camtasia Studio 2 with Integrated Recording and Production for Application Demonstrations, Software Simulations and Video Tutorials

Customers Cite Camtasia Studio's Support for Macromedia Flash, Streaming Media and Real-World Video as Key Differentiators for New Offering

Okemos, Michigan - November 5, 2003 - TechSmith Corp., the world's leading provider of screen capture and recording solutions, today introduced Camtasia Studio 2, the complete multimedia screen recording and production software for application demonstrations, software simulations and video tutorials.

Camtasia Studio 2 is the only integrated screen-recording package that produces highly compressed, high-fidelity Macromedia Flash and streaming media output. This guarantees businesses the appropriate delivery format for the appropriate content, ensuring the best results regardless of an end user's installed media player or browser.

"Camtasia Studio's support for both Flash and streaming media gives us the peace of mind that comes from knowing our customers will always be able to see and hear our high-quality multimedia content," said Michael Bryant, director of training and consulting at Sony Pictures Digital. "We are not locked into one format, and our content is flexible so we can re-purpose it for many different audiences. Camtasia Studio's new task-based interface has made the product incredibly easy to use, which enables us to quickly deliver interactive, full-motion content with great compression. We use Camtasia Studio to develop computer-based application training content for our staff, dealers, and end users. And our worldwide sales force is able to create quick video demos that highlight the most important capabilities of our products."

Camtasia Studio records screen activity in real-time, making it possible to record complex and subtle activity. This enables content developers to quickly create naturally flowing content that users can see, hear and interact with for maximum retention.

In addition to a completely redesigned editor for enhancing screen recordings and digital video files, Camtasia Studio 2 now includes:

  • Video with a Human Touch -- content developers can add personal video introductions and digital video recordings
  • Interactive Flash Hot Spots -- brings interactivity to Flash movies to create application simulations and on-screen navigation.
  • Recording Wizard -- new users are able to become productive almost immediately.
  • Streaming Flash Video Output -- Macromedia Flash MX 2004 Professional users can produce content as true streaming Flash files (.FLV).
  • Enhanced Editing -- users may preview edits and transitions in real time, add call-out boxes during production, narrate across multiple clips, Zoom-n-Pan with perfect quality, and insert any of 18 transitions between clips.
  • Any Playback Size -- full-screen recordings are playable on the smallest PC and handheld screens.

"When it comes to creating QuickTime content for our training CDs and Online Learning Library, Camtasia Studio has been a staple in our drawer of key production tools," said Garo Green, director of publications at lynda.com, a multimedia consultancy. "With the release of Camtasia Studio 2, TechSmith has made a great content-creation tool even better with easier editing features, new zooming and transition capabilities, and the ability to export true Flash video files (.FLV). We rely on Camtasia Studio to help us bring approachable, interactive, and engaging training to our customers."

System Requirements and Availability
Camtasia Studio 2 supports Microsoft Windows 2000 and Windows XP with DirectX 8.1 or later. Camtasia Studio 2 is available immediately with a suggested retail price of $299. The software can be purchased at http://www.techsmith.com.
