TechSmith Announces Latest Version of Camtasia Relay Lecture Capture and Presentation Solution Enhancing the Product's Ease of Use and Affordability

OKEMOS, Mich. -- May 5, 2009 - TechSmith Corp., the world’s leading provider of screen capture and recording solutions, announced today the latest release of Camtasia Relay, making larger deployments easier while giving presenters more control over pre- and post-recording. By integrating with an academic institution, business or conference organizer’s existing media servers and learning management systems, Camtasia Relay is an affordable solution for organizations looking to share knowledge in a multimedia format with students, customers and colleagues department-wide or campus-wide.

“From day one we focused on making Camtasia Relay affordable and easy-to-use. The response we’ve received from customers has been very positive and their feedback has been invaluable,” said Rich Boys, product manager for Camtasia Relay at TechSmith. “With this release, we’ve substantially added to the functionality across the board to ensure Camtasia Relay provides a great user experience for first time users and so universities and colleges get the most value from their investment in this challenging economic environment.”

The latest release of Camtasia Relay allows for greater scalability and management of larger deployments, gives faculty and staff more flexibility and control over their captured lectures, and simplifies user and profile management for IT staff. Combined, these new features significantly lower the total cost of ownership. Additionally, the flexibility of the new portable recorder allows any guest lecturer or presenter to easily record, store and share their Camtasia Relay lecture with no set-up time or passwords required. Relay 1.1 is a free update for existing customers.

In addition to enhancing ease-of-use, flexibility and scalability, some of the new features in Camtasia Relay 1.1 include:

  • Enhanced server and web performance provides a quicker, clearer and more reliable experience for users.
  • Automatic addition of profiles to new accounts makes getting new presenters up and running fast and easy for IT.
  • Automatic addition of new users upon successful LDAP authentication makes distribution of lecture capture capabilities simple and seamless.
  • Automatic output of presenter recordings with the resolution that best fits their needs and with no black bars and support for the Real Media format.
  • Larger scale user management features that support both LDAP users as well as local user accounts.
  • The ability for presenters to easily trim off the ends of a recording before they upload it for production.

Camtasia Relay is designed so instructors and presenters can easily record live lectures, learning objects, or presentations and publish them automatically so the videos are available in multiple formats, including for Web and portable media devices, to meet the needs of a broad audience. Users can also edit their captured lectures and presentations with Camtasia Studio, which is already used by thousands in the education community.

With Camtasia Relay, instructors and presenters can use any PC or Mac in the classroom or conference room, at their desk, or at home. Audiences can view and listen to the recorded lectures and presentations online, via learning management systems like Blackboard, via iTunes U, or on mobile devices such as the iPod or iPhone. And with LDAP integration, IT staff can quickly and easily set up and assign recording profiles for their organizations based on the needs of the presenter and their audience.

Camtasia Relay Recorder runs on Windows XP and Vista, and Mac OS X 10.4 and higher. Camtasia Relay server runs on Windows Server 2003 and 2008.
