Home / Learning Center / Camtasia Studio / Getting Started / Camtasia Studio 4 Tutorial: Save and Produce Your ProjectsSaving and Producing your Camtasia Studio Project file is necessary in order to share your final video with others. This tutorial will talk about the difference between a .camrec and a .camproj file; as well as how to produce your final project into a format that can be shared with others. In this tutorial, we will cover: .CAMREC and .CAMPROJ FilesThe original Camtasia Recorder file that you create during your screen capture is saved as a .camrec (Camtasia Recording) file. Once you bring the .camrec into Camtasia Studio for editing and producing you need to save this project file as a .camproj (Camtasia Studio Project) file. See the table for more comparisons.
Once you are in Camtasia Studio and have the .camrec file in the Clip Bin and on the Timeline, we recommend saving this project on your hard drive.
Once you have saved the .camproj file, open the folder where you saved both files and compare the differences between them. Remember that the .camproj file is the one to open when you want to continue editing prior to production.
Producing Your Video into Sharable FormatsCamtasia Studio supports many different video formats, allowing you to produce your video to your exact needs. The file format you choose depends on a variety of factors, such as the target audience and how you plan on sharing your video. Under the Produce section of the Task List, click on Produce Video As to launch the Production Wizard.
If you are new to the Production process we suggest starting with the Recommend my Production Settings option. This tutorial will focus on this option of the Production Wizard. Click Next to continue.
The distribution method of your video is the decision you need to make on this next part of the Wizard. For this example we will choose Web and click Next.
Place a check mark next to the types of content present in your video project. In this example, the video content included a screen recording, and the audio content included voice narration. Click Next to continue.
Choose the video quality and file size that is most important to you for your final video. Drag the slider to the left if you prefer to have a smaller file size, which will reduce the video quality. Click Next.
The next part of the Wizard looks very similar to the preceding page, except this time you are choosing between file size and audio quality. Again, make your selection by dragging the slider to the desired location. Click Next.
Choose the appearance and size of the Flash Template on this next window of the Production Wizard.
Enter a Production Name and select a Location for saving your video. We recommend keeping the check mark next to Organize produced files into sub-folders. Click Next to continue.
The final window of the Production Wizard gives you a summary of the settings that are recommended for producing your video. These settings were determined based on the choices made during the Wizard.
Click Finish to begin rendering the video project.
When producing a SWF video file, the Production Folder will contain multiple files. When posting your video to your website, you MUST move the entire Production Folder to your server, and then create a hyperlink to the only HTML file that was created.
