Publish Blackboard Announcements

Camtasia Relay can automatically post announcements on Blackboard. Configuring Blackboard announcements is a two-step process. First, install the Camtasia Relay Building Block on Blackboard and establish the Shared Secret. Next, configure Profiles in Camtasia Relay to publish Blackboard announcements.

Install Camtasia Relay Building Block

Locate the Camtasia Relay Building Block (RelayAnnounce.war) installed during the server installation at: C:\Program Files\Techsmith\Relay Server\Blackboard Building Block.

1.  Go to your Blackboard site. E.g. http://blackboard.example.com.

2.  Click User Login and sign in as a System Administrator.

3.  Click the System Admin tab.

4.  Click the Building Blocks link.

5.  Click Install Building Blocks.

6.  Browse to RelayAnnounce.war. Click Open (or OK).

7.  Click the Submit button and verify the Building Block is available.

8.  Click the Properties button. This displays the Shared Secret.

9.  Choose and enter a secure Shared Secret, and make a note of it as you will need to enter the Shared Secret into Camtasia Relay.

Enable Blackboard announcements in Camtasia Relay

1.  Sign in to the Camtasia Relay website as an Administrator.

2.  Click Profiles > Blackboard and XML.

3.  Click Enable Blackboard announcements.

4.  Enter the Blackboard URL and Shared Secret. Note: The Blackboard URL should include http:// or https://.; For example: http://blackboard.example.com. The Shared Secret is entered by the Blackboard Administrator after the Camtasia Relay Building Bock is installed.

5.  Click Save. Blackboard announcements are now available to add to Profiles and individual publish settings.

Assign Blackboard announcements to publish destinations

1.  Click the Profiles menu and select a Profile to add Blackboard announcements.

2.  Click Edit (the pencil icon) and enter the Course ID, Title, and Message. The course ID must match the course ID entered in Blackboard.

3.  Click Save.

4.  Click the Enable All link to apply the announcement to all publish settings in the Profile.

5.  Click the Announcement button to specify individual publish destinations.
