Using SnagIt as a Live Web Cam
| Product: | SnagIt |
| Platform: | Win 98 and above |
| Version: | 7 and above |
Using SnagIt's Web (FTP) Output option, you can send captured images of the activity on a PC screen to a Web site in near real-time. By combining SnagIt's Image capture mode and the Timed Capture feature, you can send and overwrite an image on an FTP server every 20 seconds. The Web page can be set to automatically refresh in the user's browser whenever the image is renewed, so the page will always show an updated image.
This feature is useful if you have a program running on a server or another computer that monitors a process like a factory machine's temperature, or Internet traffic. This feature allows you to check on the computer even if you're nowhere near the machine.
Just set SnagIt to capture the screen every 10 seconds and FTP the image to a Web site. You can then check the machine through your browser from any computer, wherever you are.
Setting SnagIt to Output to the Web
Note: If you use the Output > Web option to send captures to a Web site, you should also set Notifications on and choose the way to view and save them. To do this, choose Tools > Program Preferences > Notifications. Select Log events to a file and Information and errors. For more information, see the section called Setting SnagIt Notifications, below.
Select Image or Text capture mode.
Select the desired Input and Input Properties...
Choose Output > Web.
Next, you need to specify Web Output Properties. On the SnagIt main screen, click the Output Properties... button.
On the Output Properties tabbed dialog box click the Web tab. Select the desired options.
Click OK to accept your changes. Click Cancel to abandon your changes. Click Apply to apply the changes to the current SnagIt session.
Press your SnagIt Hotkey (default is <CTRL + SHIFT + P>) to capture. Files will be stored on the server in the way you specified on the Output Properties > Web tab.
The following table summarizes the description and use of each option on the Web tab.
