Apply a Customized Edge Effects Filter

ID: 7110
Product:SnagIt
Platform: Win 98 and above
Version:7 and above

SnagIt gives you the option of creating a customized Edge Effect capture filter. The customized effects are a quick way to create the exact Edge Effect filter that you need for your captures. Simply choose Custom Edge Effect from the dropdown menu and select your options. That's it. Just a few simple steps and you have professional-looking screen captures for your user guides, presentations, and Web site.

Note: Applying an Edge Effect actually removes a small part of your original capture and replaces the missing area with a special effect.

  1. Within SnagIt, choose the Filters button to see a dropdown menu of options.

  2. Choose Edge Effects, and a fly-out menu appears.

  3. Choose Custom Edge Effect from the fly-out menu. The Edge Effects dialog box will display. Use the options in the dialog box to create your custom Edge Effects filter.

  4. Choose OK when you are finished.

  5. Set your Input and Output capture options.

  6. Make sure you choose the Preview Window option from the Options toolbar.

  7. Click on the Capture button to invoke capture.

  8. Once capture is taken, it will be displayed within the Preview Window with the customized Edge Effect filter applied to it.

  9. Choose Finish to send your capture to the output source. Choose Cancel to delete the capture.

Once you create a custom Edge Effect filter, a checkmark will be placed next to the Filters > Edge Effects option to let you know that the filter option is enabled. Additionally, a bullet will be placed next to the Custom Edge Effect option to let you know that this is the option you chose as your default Edge Effect filter.

Tip: Once you have taken a capture and viewed it with the Preview Window to ensure that it is the exact filter that you desire; you can always disable the Preview Window option so you no longer have to view the capture in the Preview Window each time you take a capture.

Note: To disable an Edge Effects filter, click the Filters button, and then choose Edge Effects. From the fly-out menu, choose None.

Custom Edge Effects Options

If you would like to customize the look of your Edge Effect, then select Filters > Edge Effects > Custom Edge Effect. The Custom Edge Effect dialog box will display. The options available allow you to customize the edges of your capture by:

  • Changing the size and location of the effect;

  • Adding a shadow and defining its size, location and color;

  • Adding an outline and defining its size and color;

  • Changing the background color.
