Apply a Preconfigured Edge Effects Filters

ID: 7111
Product:SnagIt
Platform: Win 98 and above
Version:7 and above

SnagIt gives you the option of choosing several preconfigured Edge Effects to use for a capture filter. The preconfigured Edge Effects are a quick way to enable an Edge Effect filter. Simply choose the desired effect from the dropdown menu. That's it. Just one simple step and you have professional-looking screen captures for your user guides, presentations, and Web site.

Note: Applying an Edge Effect actually removes a small part of your original capture and replaces the missing area with a special effect.

Note: You cannot customize the preconfigured edge effects. If you have already applied one of the preconfigured effects, and then you decide that you would like to change the look of the edge in some way, then you must first undo the effect and then choose Effects > Edge Effects > Custom Edge Effect to create a custom edge effect.

  1. Within SnagIt, choose the Filters button to see a dropdown menu of options.

  2. Choose Edge Effects, and a fly-out menu appears.

  3. Choose the desired preconfigured Edge Effect from the fly-out menu: Drop Shadow, Fade, Torn, or Wave Edge.

  4. Set your Input and Output capture options.

  5. Make sure you choose the Preview Window option from the Options toolbar.

  6. Click on the Capture button to invoke capture.

  7. Once the capture is taken, it will be displayed within the Preview Window with the Edge Effect filter applied to it.

  8. Choose Finish to send your capture to the output source. Choose Cancel to delete the capture.

Tip: Once you have taken a capture and viewed it with the Preview Window to ensure that it is the exact filter that you desire; you can always disable the Preview Window option so you no longer have to view the capture in the Preview Window each time you take a capture.

Note: To disable an Edge Effects filter, click the Filters button, and then choose Edge Effects. From the fly-out menu, choose None.
