Color Substitution
| Product: | SnagIt |
| Platform: | Win 98 and above |
| Version: | 7 and above |
Use the Color Substitution options to replace one color (old color) with another (new color) during capture.
Used in combination with the Zoom-In tool and Region Selection tool , you have a powerful way to touch up digital pictures. If you select a region, the color substitution only takes place inside that region. Substitute any single pixel (color accuracy set to 100%) or several pixels of similar shades, if you lower the percentage of required accuracy.
There are two ways to determine the old and new color. The Eyedropper tool lets you pick any of the actual displayed colors on the screen. Plus, SnagIt provides a color selection dialog which states the exact RGB value and offers more choices.
In any case, your replacement choice is limited to the actual color resolution and palette of the captured image. For example, if your image resolution is set to 256 colors, then you can't use an exact shade of pink which is not included in this palette.
Custom Color Substitution is available at three points in the capture process.
Prior to capture, from the Filters menu in the Capture Settings pane. Here you can pick and substitute any color which is provided by your desktop. If your screen resolution is set to True color (32-bit), you will have a choice of 16 million colors.
Prior to output, in the Capture Preview window from Colors > Color Substitution. The eyedropper's activity is limited to the actual colors of the captured picture. But you can always use the RGB dialog to get any color you want, if supported by the color resolution and palette of the captured image.
After capture, in SnagIt Editor. You can even substitute colors in already saved screenshots and digital images. But again, be aware that you are limited to the picture's color resolution and specific palette.

Color Accuracy
|
This option allows you to specify the range of colors close to the Old color that are to be included in the substitution. Selecting the default value of 100% means that only the exact color identified can be used. Selecting a lower value increases the range of colors for which the color substitution is made. Color accuracy only works in one direction (that is, substituting the Old color with the New color).

Substituting Colors
Choose Filters > Color Substitution > Color Substitution and the Color Substitution dialog box displays.
Click Add to open a first row for color substitution, allowing you to select two colors.
Select the original and substitute colors using one of these methods:
Choose the eyedropper to select the Old color and New color. The cursor changes to an eyedropper, which you can then use to pick any color on screen.
Click the color box next to the eyedropper to open the color selection dialog. Specify the RGB numbers or select a color from the rainbow spectrum.
The color box in the color substitution dialog changes to show the color selected:
Adjust Color accuracy if you want to change the range of color values that can be included in the substitution. Lower the percent value to increase the range of colors to be considered in the substitution.
Select a color substitution row and place a checkmark in Swap colors with each other to make the substitution two-way.
To apply your setting to the image, choose OK.
The Preview Window or SnagIt Editor will show the new look of your capture. Use Undo to restore the original colors.
