Batch Conversion

ID: 7203
Product:SnagIt
Platform: Win 98 and above
Version:7 and above

If you have saved a series of screen captures in the wrong image file type or have a set of captures with a variety of file types that now need to be made the same, SnagIt's batch conversion feature can save you the time and hassle of individually converting them to the desired file type.

Using SnagIt's batch conversion feature, you can change the file format of a group of images automatically. Even if you saved them in a variety of file formats, you can select the entire group and convert them to a single format quickly and easily.

Batch conversion can also be used to easily perform a number of standard image annotation and editing functions, and you never even have to open a single image. You can also resize, change resolutions, add borders, trim, and add watermarks. Batch conversion has a number of time-saving filters that allow you to easily edit the attributes of a series of images.

The SnagIt Batch Conversion Wizard leads you through the process in four easy steps. Once you become familiar with the process, you can also batch convert images without the wizard. This tutorial will teach you about both methods.

Using the Batch Conversion Wizard

The Batch Conversion Wizard gives you a simple and easy way to batch convert your images.

To open the Batch Conversion Wizard, choose Batch Convert Images from the Edit tab. The Batch Convert dialog box will display.

  1. Selecting Files
From the list, select the desired files. To add other files, click on the Add Files button. To remove any files that you don't want to be converted, highlight the file(s) and click the Remove button.
    Choose Next.

  2. Conversion Filters
Click on the Modify button to select any desired filters from the dropdown menu. The filters will be applied to each image during the batch conversion process. If you don't want to apply any filters, simply choose Next without making any filter selection.
    Choose Next.

  3. Output Options
Browse and select an Output Directory. This is where your new images will be saved.
In the File Format drop-down list, select a file format for the batch conversion. All files will be converted to the same format.
    Choose Next.

  4. Ready for the Conversion Process
Review your options in this read-only dialog box. If you would like to make any changes, use the Back button to go to that step and make the changes. Continue with Next until you reach this Review dialog box once again.
When you are ready, click on the Finish button. The conversion process will begin. When the conversion is complete, all of the converted images will display in the Catalog Browser.

Convert Selected Images

  1. Start SnagIt.

  2. Open the Catalog Browser from the Organize tab. From within the Catalog Browser, select one or more files to be batch converted.

  3. Use Edit > Select All to select all files.
Select and hold SHIFT in combination with a left-click of the mouse to select sequential files.
Hold CTRL and left-click the mouse to select non-sequential files.

  4. Once the desired files are selected, select Tools > Conversion Filters and apply the appropriate options. Modify the color depth, color substitution, image resolution, image scaling, annotation, border, watermark and trim characteristics of the file(s).

  5. Once the conversion filters have been chosen, select Tools > Convert Selected Images. The Batch Image File Conversion dialog box appears. Any filters you have applied (Annotation, Watermark, Border, or Trim) appear in the Conversion Filters status box.

  6. Select a Copy to folder. This is where your new images will be saved.

  7. In the Save images as type dropdown list, select a file format for the batch conversion. All files will be converted to the same format.

  8. Choose OK. The Batch Conversion process will take place.

When the Batch Conversion process is complete, the files have been individually converted to the selected format, filters have been applied, and images are stored in the folder you selected.
