TechSmith’s Newest Release of Morae Allows for Third Party Plug-Ins, Deeper and Faster Analysis, and More Polish on Final Presentations
OKEMOS, Mich – January 19, 2010 – TechSmith Corp., the world’s leading provider of screen capture and recording solutions, today announced the immediate availability of Morae 3.2 allowing user experience, market and academic researchers, web designers, software product managers and Lean Six Sigma professionals to conduct comprehensive studies on human interaction, in the field or in the lab.
Morae is a desktop software solution that records user interactions via camera or computer screen while streaming the research sessions to various stakeholders observing in a network. Morae then provides the archived data in a way that it can be analyzed, combined, and shared visually in documents, presentations, and videos. With Morae, businesses, market research firms and academia can affordably conduct detailed user experience and qualitative market and educational research.
"When you're working in a university research lab there's no such thing as an out-of-the-box software solution that can meet every need," said Dr. Corey Bohil, manager of the Media Interface and Network Design (M.I.N.D.) lab at Michigan State University. "However, Morae's new pluggable architecture will make it possible for us to integrate diverse, third-party data streams such as eye tracking and heart rate when we're testing participant response to things like video games, advertisements, movies, and the other media stimuli we research in our program."
With Morae’s new open architecture, customers now have the ability to write plug-ins that will expand Morae’s analysis capabilities to meet their unique needs. The Morae 3.2 release also includes sample code for a Microsoft Outlook capture plug-in for Lean Six Sigma researchers to use or build on for transactional project analysis.
"Finding a tool for measuring and analyzing time spent on task in transactional processes is a critical service we provide our clients," said Zack Guthrie, owner of The Guthrie Group (TGG), a management consulting group specializing in Lean Six Sigma. "Morae allows us to implement our LeanPC method of mapping transactional processes for improvements by doing things like capturing Microsoft Outlook data streams for clients. Morae has enabled us to create a team-driven way to sustain improvements for transactional processes and SMED analysis."
In addition to the open architecture, new features in Morae 3.2 include:
- Cross event stream searching so customers can analyze a web site usability study with data organized by Web page across participants so identifying common issues and making recommendations for improvement can be accomplished much faster.
- Transitions such as slide, dissolve, and fade create more engaging highlight videos to show key issues and findings to clients and internal development teams.
- The ability to draw the mouse movement path over screen recorded video so fast motion can be deciphered and points where users experience confusion can easily be identified. This feature is implemented as part of Morae’s open plug-in architecture and can be turned off or on.
- An enhanced task scoring design in Morae so stakeholders observing can note success and failure scores much faster without missing any of the participant action.
Since its launch in March 2004, Morae has become the gold standard for some of the most popular web destinations, industry-leading software providers, leading research universities, and usability professionals worldwide. Powered by TechSmith’s patented Rich Recording Technology (RRT), Morae offers superior functionality, greater flexibility, faster implementation, and a considerable cost-savings compared to traditional user experience and research solutions.
