Starting next month, our five English-language newsletters will be replaced by a single newsletter with customizable content. You will be able to choose the content—by type and by product—that is relevant to you.
Every subscriber will receive a few of the same core items that we deem "of general interest" (Letter from the Editor, product announcements)...but beyond that you'll be able to choose the tutorials and customer stories you'll receive, based on which product(s) you're interested in.
And if you subscribe via RSS instead of email, your feed will be dynamically created, too.
You'll receive a separate email later this month with a link to select your preferences...so keep an eye out for that. And, as always, let us know what you think!

| News: Jing gets new features and "send to Snagit" button |
Return to Top |

Jing is free...and so is the latest update! Current Jing users will get the update automatically; everyone else can download Jing here (Mac/PC).
If you've used Jing, you know that it's all about lightning-fast screen capture and recording—with instant sharing! If Snagit were a fancy SLR camera, Jing would be one of those compact point-and-shoot deals.
Here's the full rundown of new-ness in this Jing update:
Output to Snagit & Camtasia Studio
Send your Jings to Snagit or Camtasia Studio and edit like a pro. Use Snagit to edit screen captures and Camtasia Studio to edit screencast videos and produce them in various file formats. So if you start a screen capture with Jing and realize you need more editing muscle...just click to send the image directly to Snagit editor! (See how...)
Aspect ratio
No more wasting time resizing those images or videos, now you can know for sure that your Jing captures will fit right into your blog, website, or wherever you want them. Just hold down the Ctrl key (for standard sizes) or Shift key (for widescreen sizes) while selecting a region. (See how...)
Enable commenting on your Jing content
Want feedback or discussion about your Jings? When you share your stuff through Screencast.com, you can now enable commenting on that content from within Jing!
Share to different Screencast.com folders
You can now choose to share your stuff to any folder you have set up within Screencast.com. Just create a new button for each different folder (Jing allows up to 8 unique buttons). Want to keep personal and work stuff separate? Now you can!
And for Jing Pro users only...
Webcam capture
Put yourself in the picture! Provide a quick "in person" intro to your videos, send video postcards to your kids away at school, or even show off your latest big purchase by recording with your web camera. (See it in action...)

To celebrate the Jing release, our chief evangelist Betsy Weber rounded up a bunch of TechSmithies to record 6 screencasts in 60 minutes...using Jing. Check out the videos...they're fun, fast, and informative!

The TechSmith training team is now on Twitter, fielding questions and helping customers however they can.
(Twitter is that web service you've probably heard about, where people post instant updates about what they're doing.)
Sometimes the trainers will create an off-the-cuff screencast that answers a specific question or exposes a handy-but-hidden feature like Snagit's eyedropper color matching tool (see links at right).
And guess what? |

Sample tip: Match colors with eyedropper tool

You don't need to be Twitter user to benefit from the tips we're posting on Twitter. You can just bookmark the webpage and come back occasionally to see what's new...or add the RSS feed to your reader.
If you are a Twitter user, however, you can tweet @SnagitTips for help if you get stuck when using Snagit. Or just say hello!
Have a Snagit tip to share? Drop me an email, and you could be featured in the newsletter... |

We've received dozens of great stories from readers about why they've chosen TechSmith products. Here are three in brief...
“When one of those Microsoft error messages pops up—the ones that can't be captured by highlighting text and copying it—Snagit solves the problem by allowing hassle-free capture of the exact language and any details. That makes the next call to tech support easy, because all the words are right there—without the pain of copying down the message word by word.” –Dick Lutz, editor, MainStreetWire.com
“Snagit is the best software product on the market. I use it in virtually every aspect of my job—on average 20-30 times a day—and tell a new person about Snagit almost every week.” –Sue Armstrong, Business Management Consultant (and owner), Database Labs, Inc.
“I use Snagit in my genealogy searches, to capture pieces of historical documents as I find them in databases both in Canada and Ireland. It is tremendously useful in reducing the time needed to follow the twisting and turning trail of family history through several countries and periods of time. What an awesome tool!” –Maureen Meikle
Tell us why you use Snagit! And if you like the nifty smiley faces above, you can download them as Snagit stamps.

Did you know that you can use Snagit as a printer? That's right, you can print to Snagit instead of printing to paper...and you can do it from any application installed on your computer.
Snagit users have reported a variety of cool and interesting uses for Snagit Printer, like saving time when checking in for a flight or when booting up far from home.
Dr. P.A. Hulley, a scientist from South Africa, wrote in to say that printing a graph from Microsoft Excel to Snagit Printer results in a higher resolution image than capturing it off the screen...which makes journal editors happy. |

So give Snagit Printer a whirl and see how it's useful in your everyday work!

Snagit gives you a way to add interactivity to an image and save it as a Flash (.swf) file.
Then when you put that Flash file on a webpage or a PowerPoint slide, the viewer can hover the mouse over it to see additional information.
This video tutorial and accompanying written guide shows you how to make a snazzy, interactive graphic...the easy way!
