Spotlight on Jim Francis, Technical Writer

"SnagIt has become my daily companion," Jim Francis said.

Mr. Francis is a technical wrier at CipherTrust, an e-mail security company that helps organizations block spam and e-mail viruses, enforce content policies, and protect networks.

When he arrived at CipherTrust, his coworkers were already using SnagIt. He said, "In prior companies, we used screen capture products only occasionally, but the few I'd tried were not nearly so comprehensive and easy to use as SnagIt."

For instance, he said, the other screen capture products were very limited, in that he couldn't get good quality shots, couldn't get just the part of the screen he wanted without editing, and couldn't edit within the same program. In contrast, he said, "SnagIt lets me capture in high resolution, it looks good, and the Studio is right there so can do things with the image before I put it anywhere."

As a technical writer, he is responsible for producing setup guides, reviewer guides, user manuals and other occasional pieces. He said, "We find screenshots and other illustrations to be invaluable for communicating to our various audiences. SnagIt is the tool we use for all screen captures and enhancements to them - in SnagIt Studio - and for gathering other illustrations as well."

In particular, he finds it very helpful that he's able to customize his own capture profiles. Since he does a lot of work with drop down menus, he frequently uses SnagIt's Timer Setup to schedule a Delayed capture. "With the delay, it makes it easy to capture the drop down menus and show my users exactly how my screen looks. I've saved several special capture configurations that I use often, but I also find the default set of tools to be flexible and enabling," he said.

Others in the company use SnagIt for communication purposes. Not only does the support group use Mr. Francis' screenshots, but the company employees frequently share graphics with each other. Mr. Francis said, "We just went through a major rewrite of our software. Without SnagIt, I'd still be writing!"

"Thanks for your great product. So far as I'm concerned, anyone using another screen capture tool must not have seen SnagIt yet," he said.
