Snagit&#8217;s SNAGX file format replaces the former SNAG format for Windows and SNAGPROJ format for Mac and is compatible with both platforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Individuals and teams who use Snagit on both Windows and Mac computers can open, edit, and share SNAGX files with ease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Edit vector-based objects (text, callouts, stamps, shapes, pasted images, cursors, etc.).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Create a draft image for future revisions or improvements.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Update graphics and text to support multiple languages.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"notice notice-snagit\">\n\t<p><b>Note:<\/b> To open and edit captures from Snagit for Windows version 2021 and earlier, see <a href=\"https:\/\/www.techsmith.com\/learn\/tutorials\/snagit\/convert-previous-captures\/\">Convert Your Previous Captures<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-save-snagx-files\">Save SNAGX Files<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Snagit automatically saves your image captures, including edits and annotations, as SNAGX files in the Snagit Library. The Library serves as a complete history of captures available for future editing and reuse. See <a href=\"https:\/\/www.techsmith.com\/learn\/tutorials\/snagit\/snagit-library\/\">Introduction to Snagit Library<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"notice notice-snagit\">\n\t<p><b>Note:<\/b> To turn off autosaving SNAGX files (Windows only), in Snagit Editor select <b>Edit menu > Editor Preferences > Library tab<\/b> and deselect the <b>Automatically save new image captures in the Library option<\/b>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>To save a SNAGX file to another location:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In Snagit Editor, click to select the image in the Recent Captures Tray or Library. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select <strong>File &gt; Save As<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the <strong>Save as type<\/strong> (Windows) or <strong>Format<\/strong> (Mac) dropdown, select <strong>SNAGX &#8211; Snagit Capture File<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>Save<\/strong>. <br>Open the SNAGX file on Windows or Mac to edit the image at a later time. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-save-to-another-file-format\">Save to Another File Format<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Snagit always saves image captures to the default SNAGX format. To save to another file format, such as JPG or PNG, for use in a different application: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In Snagit Editor, click to select the image in the Recent Captures Tray or Library. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select <strong>File &gt; Save As<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the Save As dialog, enter a filename and select the preferred file type and location.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>Save<\/strong>. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>The new file and the SNAGX file both appear in the tray. It is possible to continue editing both files. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>On Windows, if you exit and then reopen Snagit Editor, you can continue editing both files and any annotations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>On Mac, when you quit Snagit, the non-SNAGX file is flattened. It is not possible to edit annotations made to the non-SNAGX file before it was flattened. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-tips\">Tips<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Duplicate a capture before you make edits to preserve an original copy.
