If you record full screen, the recording dimensions are usually the same as the resolution of your monitor.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"#h-project-settings\">Project Settings:<\/a><\/strong> The size of your canvas in Camtasia Editor, the editing frame rate, and audio levels.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"#h-export-settings\">Export Settings:<\/a><\/strong> The options you choose when exporting your video, including the size of your video.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Adjust these settings to produce high video quality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-recording-dimensions\">Recording Dimensions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>One way to get a crisp, clear screen recording is to display your screen video at its original recording size, which avoids any scaling. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Scaling stretches or shrinks a screen recording to display it at a different size than the original recording. Scaling decreases quality and causes videos to appear blurry or distorted. See <a href=\"#h-scaling-tips\">Scaling Tips<\/a> to learn when scaling is necessary or how to use scaling to your advantage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"tip tip-camtasia\">\n\t<p>Tip: Start with the recording dimensions.<\/p>\n\t<p>If you know the desired dimensions for your final video, enter these dimensions into the Width and Height fields in Camtasia Recorder for your source recording. Complete the following to export a video with the current project (editing) dimensions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Windows:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Click the <strong>Export<\/strong> button and select <strong>Local File<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enter a <strong>File name<\/strong> and select a <strong>Save location<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click to display <strong>Advanced Settings<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>On the <strong>Dimensions<\/strong> tab, select <strong>Current Project Dimensions<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>Export<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mac:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Click the <strong>Export<\/strong> button and select <strong>Local File<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enter a file name in the <strong>Export As<\/strong> field and select a location.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the <strong>File format <\/strong>dropdown, select <strong>Export to MP4<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click the <strong>Options<\/strong> button.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the <strong>Dimensions<\/strong> dropdown, select <strong>Current<\/strong> and click <strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>Export<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-scaling-tips\">Scaling Tips<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-sometimes-you-can-t-avoid-scaling\">Sometimes You Can&#8217;t Avoid Scaling<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Sometimes it\u2019s not possible to match your recording and project dimensions. For example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If you record a screen that is bigger or smaller than the size of the video you want to create.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your monitor doesn\u2019t fit a standard 16:9 aspect ratio.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In these situations scaling the recording is unavoidable, but you can use scaling to your advantage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-we-use-scaling-to-our-advantage\">How We Use Scaling to Our Advantage<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>For our tutorial videos, we record on a monitor that is twice the size of our project dimensions. The screen recording will be displayed at half its original size and will have some quality loss. This is fine for us, because we spend most of our time zoomed in and focused on specific parts of the user interface, which is where we want to see the highest quality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To get the highest quality and most detail, we zoom to the original size of the recording, or 100% scale.
