Cut, Trim, or Crop to Remove Part of an Image

This tutorial series demonstrates how to complete basic edits to an image in Snagit Editor. 

In this tutorial, learn a few ways to remove unwanted sections out of an image in Snagit.

Cut Out a Section

The Cut Out option deletes a vertical or horizontal section of an image and joins the two pieces together. Use this option to cut out the middle of a long, scrolling page or remove extra space in a window or dialog.

Cut out example

  1. In Snagit Editor, select Image tab > Cut Out option. Select a cut out edge effect from the dropdown.

  2. A line appears on the canvas. Click and drag on the canvas to select the area to remove.

Trim an Image

The Trim option removes the extra area from the top, bottom, or side of an image capture.

Trim example

  • Drag a white handle on the edge of the canvas in to trim the image.

  • On the Image tab, click the Trim button. The trimmed area is based on the amount of solid or transparency around the edges of the canvas.

Crop an Image

The Crop option removes all of an image except for the selected area.

  1. In Snagit Editor, select Tools Tab > Selection tool.

  2. Click and drag on the canvas to select an area.

  3. On the Image tab, click the Crop button.

Remove a Section

The Selection tool allows you to select an area anywhere on the image for removal.

  1. In Snagit Editor, select Tools tab > Selection tool.

  2. Click and drag on the canvas to select an area.
  3. Press the Delete key or right-click the selection and choose Cut or Delete.
