01: Add Text or Draw on an Image

This tutorial series demonstrates how to complete basic edits to an image in Snagit Editor. To learn how to capture an image using Snagit, see Taking Your First Capture.

This tutorial describes how to use the Drawing tools to:

  • Enhance an image.
  • Point out specific items or areas in an image.
  • Add text for captures, titles, clarification, or more information.

Add a Callout

Callouts are a combination of text and a graphic to call attention to an area in an image. Snagit provides several preset styles to get you started or you can create your own custom callout.

  1. In Snagit Editor, select Tools tab > Callout tool.

  2. Select a callout style from the Styles Gallery or adjust the properties to create a custom callout.

  3. Click and drag on the canvas to draw a callout. If the selected style includes a tail, the callout starts at the tail.

  4. Enter text.

Move, Resize, or Rotate a Callout

  • To move a callout, click within the callout and it to a new location.

  • To rotate the callout around the tail, click the anchor point in the center of the callout and drag around the callout tail.

  • Use the handles to edit the callout:

    • White handles: Drag the handles to change the height and width of the callout.

    • Green handle: Drag the handle to rotate the orientation of the callout.

Add an Arrow

Point out something in a capture using arrows.

  1. In Snagit Editor, select Tools tab > Arrow Tool.

  2. Select an arrow style from the Styles Gallery or adjust the properties to create a custom arrow.

  3. Click and drag on the canvas to draw the arrow.

Add Text

  1. In Snagit Editor, select Tools tab > Callout tool.

  2. Select a text style from the Styles Gallery.

  3. Click and drag on the canvas to draw the text box.
  4. Type text in the text box.

  5. Use the Font options in the properties to edit the text formatting. To change the alignment, select Text > Align.
