Retina Display: Sharing Images

Images captured on a retina display appear larger when shared to other applications or onto non-retina displays. Snagit version 2.1.6 now provides an option to scale down retina images when sharing image captures out of Snagit.

Select Snagit > Preferences > Advanced, and check the box "Scale down retina images when sharing."

Scale retina images opiton

This option automatically scales down images captured on a retina display when:

  • Dragging and dropping an image capture from the tray onto the desktop or into another application.
  • Saving an image capture.
  • Sharing an image capture through one of Snagit’s outputs.

Snagit also makes it easy to switch between sharing the original capture and sharing a capture that has been scaled down. Holding the Shift key while completing one of the above three sharing options, executes the opposite behavior of the retina scaling option selected in the Snagit Preferences.

For example, if you have the “Scale down retina images when sharing” selected in the Snagit Preferences, and you decide that you want to quickly drag the original sized capture onto your desktop, simply hold the Shift key while dragging and dropping the image.
