TechSmith Capture delivers the simple, straightforward video creation experience our users have been asking for. Highlights include:
To get started, click on the Launch Capture button in the TechSmith Relay website, or in your LMS.
The first time you attempt to launch TechSmith Capture, you'll be prompted to Download TechSmith Capture to your local machine.
Look for the .exe file (Windows) or .dmg file (Mac) in your system Downloads folder or in your web browser. Here's what it looks like in Windows Chrome, for example:
Double-click on the .exe or .dmg file to begin the installation process. After you've installed the app, return to the TechSmith Relay site and click Launch Capture again. This time, and every time after this, TechSmith Capture will open on your machine when you click the Launch Capture button:
Audio is a crucial part of any video. TechSmith Capture can capture system audio as well as audio from a single microphone.
Select a Microphone
Choose an available microphone from your list of available devices.
If you need to toggle your microphone on or off during recording, use the microphone icon in the recording controls.
To record the audio that you hear playing back on your computer, enable the Record System Audio switch. Note that you can record both system audio and narration from a single microphone at the same time.
TechSmith Capture can record full-frame webcam video. This feature is great for personal intro videos or for showing off a little bit of your human side in between slides. You can record a webcam-only video, or toggle back and forth between webcam and screen content during recording.
Select a Webcam
Before or during recording, click the webcam icon in the recording controls to toggle the webcam on or off. Keep in mind that what you see on your screen is what will be recorded in your final video.
Once you're happy with your screen recording area, click the Record button on the recording controls.
If you need to re-select the screen area before recording, click the Start Over button.
To take a short break while making your video, use the Pause button to temporarily stop recording.
When you're ready to go again, click the Record button to resume.
When you're all done recording, click the Stop button.
Preview Your Recording
After you finish recording your video, it opens in the Preview Window and begins to play back. We recommend at least checking to make sure you've captured audio at an sufficient volume. From here you can Upload your video to TechSmith Relay, or Cancel your recording if it didn't turn out quite right.
Locating the TechSmith Capture App
If you have multiple windows open on your desktop and are having trouble locating the TechSmith Capture app, check your taskbar (Windows) or dock (Mac) for a yellow TechSmith Capture icon. Clicking this icon should bring TechSmith Capture to the front of your open apps and windows.
Updating the TechSmith Capture App
When a new version of TechSmith Capture is available, it will download and install silently in the background. If you ever want to be sure you have the latest version, use the Download option from the launch tab, and re-install the app from your Downloads folder.
