Captioning and Audio Search

TECHSMITH RELAY (SELF-HOSTED) 5
The Caption Editor page allows presenters and global caption editors to review and edit captions that were created automatically by TechSmith Relay. Check out the tips and tricks below to learn more about the captioning options available.

Any presentation published using a profile that requires captions will be held for captioning. This means that all processing and publishing of the video will be paused until the captions are edited and/or the hold is released. Global Caption Editors and Presenters can review and edit captions in TechSmith Relay.

TechSmith Relay will attempt to automatically add captions to a video, but there will likely be some errors that need correcting. For this reason, any presentation requiring captions will be held until the captions have been reviewed.

How will I know a video is held for captioning?

When a presentation is held for caption editing, you will see a notification on your TechSmith Relay dashboard. Click the link in the notification to open the video in the Caption Editor.

The number in the lower right of a caption shows the remaining characters available to keep the captions in compliance with guidelines. If a caption is too long, it turns yellow and shows a negative number of characters available.

Audio Search

It is possible for a profile to have audio search only applied to submitted presentations, with no closed captions.

This means that viewers will be able to search the video's auto-detected narration. Presentations with only audio search enabled are not held for caption approval.
