Speed Up & Slow Down Video Clips

Learn how to speed up or slow down media on the timeline.

Clip speed allows you to play a video clip faster or slower than its natural pace.

  1. Click Visual Effects tab.

  2. Drag the Clip Speed effect onto media on the timeline.

  3. Select the media with the clip speed applied and click the arrow on the bottom of the clip to open the Effects tray.

  4. Select Clip Speed in the Effects tray and complete one of the following:
    • Drag the clip speed handles to adjust the speed of the clip.

    • Click the Properties button to adjust the Duration and Speed to get the desired effect.

      • Increase the speed to play back the video faster.
      • Decrease the speed to play back the video slower.

Tip: Split media first to adjust the speed of different segments.

To vary the duration and speed of different parts of the media, split the media first before applying the Clip Speed effect. To learn more about splitting media, see Remove Mistakes (Trim & Split).
