Collaborate on a Video Project

Learn how to invite others to collaborate on your online video project.

Camtasia online makes it easy to work with others on a shared video project, for free. Each collaborator can add, record, and customize their own video scenes when it is convenient for them. There’s no software to download, and Camtasia online is very beginner-friendly.

Invite Collaborators

When invited, collaborators can be granted project permissions at two separate access levels:

  • Project Access – Use this with collaborators you fully trust to help you build the entire video, or when you do not want to micro-manage each individual scene.
  • Scene Only Access – Use this when you need to limit someone’s contribution to a small number of designated scenes in your video project.

Invite a Project Collaborator

  1. Click Collaborate.

  2. For each collaborator, enter their full email address and then click Invite.

An invitation is sent to each email address. To join the project, collaborators should click the link in their email and log into their personal TechSmith account (or create a new TechSmith account for free).

You can also share the Collaboration link directly with anyone already added as a collaborator. However, the link only works for individuals invited by email. The email address used to log into their TechSmith account must match your list of collaborators.

Invite a Scene Only Collaborator

As the project owner, make sure to add scenes first. Collaborators with scene only access cannot add new scenes to a project.

  1. Click the Add Scene button for each scene you need.

  5. Click Back if you need to continue editing the selected scene. Repeat steps 1-4 to invite collaborators to another scene in the project.

Remove Collaborators

If you need to revoke project or scene access, click the Collaborate button and select the Project Access tab. Then, click the Remove button (X). This can be done at any point, before or after the collaborator has accessed your project.

Automatic Scene Locking

You and your collaborators will likely enjoy the ability to work on your project simultaneously. However, to prevent conflicting changes, a scene will be automatically and temporarily locked while someone is actively making changes to that scene.

Locked scenes can be previewed during editing, and will become unlocked when a collaborator has exited the scene or closes the project.

Share Your Video

When all collaborators have added their contributions to your project, you can get a sharable view link or use Camtasia Editor on your desktop to add advanced, stylish video edits like scene transitions or title sequences.
