Remove Unwanted Parts

Camtasia offers multiple options to remove unwanted parts of media.

OptionSteps
Trim (Mark-in or Mark-out a Clip)
Drag edge of media clip to resize
Reduce or extend the start or end of a clip without cuts or splits.
  1. Click to select a clip on the timeline (Mac only).
  2. Hover the cursor over the beginning or end of the clip.
  3. Drag the end of the clip in or out.

CutA cut removes a selection from the timeline and adds it to the clipboard. You can cut a single clip or cut across multiple clips.

To Cut Media:
Click to select media on the timeline and click the Cut icon button. Hold Shift+click to select multiple media.

To Cut a Timeline Selection:
  1. Click the Lock icon used to lock or unlock tracks on the timeline button to lock tracks on timeline that contain media you do not want to cut.
  2. Click and drag the green or red handles on the playhead to make a selection. For a precise selection, drag the Zoom slider to zoom in on the timeline content.

  3. Click the Cut icon button. The selection is removed and the remaining media is stitched together.
  4. To paste the selection on the timeline, move the playhead to a new location and click the Paste icon button.
Delete Media or SelectionTo Delete Media:
Select media on the timeline and press Delete.

To Delete a Timeline Selection:
  1. Click the Lock icon used to lock or unlock tracks on the timeline button to lock tracks on timeline that contain media you do not want to delete.
  2. Click and drag the green or red playhead handles to make a selection. For a precise selection, drag the Zoom slider to zoom in on the timeline content.

  3. Press Delete on the keyboard.

Rearrange Media or Insert Space

Split media into multiple clips to:

  • Move and edit each clip separately.
  • Insert transitions, title slides, or graphics between clips.

  1. Drag the playhead to the location to split.
  2. Click the Split icon button or press S on the keyboard.
All media on the timeline splits into separate clips.

To split selected media, click to select media before splitting. Hold Shift+click to select multiple media.
Insert Space at a Specific Point (Ripple Split)Hold the Shift key and drag the playhead. Camtasia splits the media across all tracks and moves everything to the right of the playhead.
