Record & Edit Camera Video (Picture-in-Picture)

Record video from a webcam or other camera device to connect with your viewers. Learn how to record camera only, or include camera with screen recording as a picture-in-picture video.

In this tutorial:

Record Camera Only

To record a camera only video without screen recording:

  1. In the Camtasia Recorder, click the Screen Recording and System Audio toggle buttons to turn them off.

  2. Click the Camera and Microphone toggle buttons to turn them on.

  3. Click the Camera and Microphone dropdowns to select specific devices.

  4. Drag the microphone slider to increase or decrease the audio level.

  5. Click the Record (Windows) or Start Recording (Mac) button.
  6. Click the Stop (Windows) or Stop Recording (Mac) button.

Camtasia combines the camera video with microphone audio on Track 1 of the timeline.

Record Your Screen and Camera Together (Picture-in-Picture)

  1. In the Camtasia Recorder, click the Screen Recording, Camera, Microphone, and System Audio (optional) toggle buttons to turn them on.

  2. Click the Record (Windows) or Start Recording (Mac) button.
  3. Click the Stop (Windows) or Stop Recording (Mac) button.

Camtasia adds the screen capture to Track 1 of the Editor, and combines the camera video with microphone audio on Track 2.

Add Animations to Show, Hide, or Move Media

Add animations to media, for example to:

  • Resize the camera video to fill the screen at the start of the video.
  • Reposition the camera video to reveal an area of the screen recording.
