Record or Generate Voice Narration

Learn how to record a voiceover or generate an AI voice based on your script.

Voice narration compliments the visuals and can enhance your video by adding instructions, insights, context, emotion, or tell a story. Record your own voice as the video plays back or generate an AI voice based on your script.

Record voice narration to create a stronger connection and build trust with your audience. Voice narration can add personality and authenticity to your videos.

Consider generating audio from text when you want:

Professional audio quality but are located in a poor environment for recording.
Consistent audio across your project or do not like the sound of your own voice.
To adjust the tone or language to reuse the content to different locales or purposes.
To mimic a conversation or use multiple speakers.

Record a Voiceover

Record a voiceover while Camtasia Editor plays back the video on the timeline. You can paste a script to read from during the recording.

In Camtasia Editor, click the Narration tab.
Select the desired audio device from the dropdown.
To test the audio level, speak as you would during the recording. Drag the slider to adjust the audio level.
Select Mute timeline during recording (Windows) or Mute speakers during recording (Mac) to prevent audio on the timeline from playing through your speakers or headphones.
Type or paste an optional script into the text box.
Drag the playhead to the position on the timeline to where you want to start the narration.
Click the Start Voice Recording button.
Camtasia Editor plays back the video on the timeline. Speak into a microphone to record your voice narration.
Click the Stop button.
On Windows, enter a file name and click Save.

Camtasia Editor adds the audio clip to the timeline and media bin.

Generate Audio from a Script

Generate an AI voice based on your script in Camtasia Audiate.

Note: AI voice generation is available with subscription to Camtasia Audiate, Camtasia Create, or Camtasia Pro.

In Camtasia Editor, click the Narration tab.
Type or paste a script into the text box.
Click the Generate Audio button.
Camtasia Audiate opens. On the Generate Audio tab, choose an AI voice.

Click the Generate Audio button.
Audiate generates audio from the script. To send the audio back to your Camtasia Editor project, select Export > Export to Camtasia.
Select your desired export options and click Export. By default, Audiate sends the audio file to the timeline of your open Camtasia Editor project and, if selected, generates captions.
