03: Taking Your First Image Capture

Use Snagit to capture a snapshot of anything on your screen. 

Things to capture

  1. Open or set up what you want to capture.
  2. Move the cursor over the Capture window. The Capture window expands.

  3. Click the Capture button or press the global capture keyboard shortcut, Control-Shift-C.

  4. The orange crosshairs appear.

    • Capture a Region or Area of the Screen: Click and drag to select the desired area on the screen.
    • Capture a Window: Move the cursor over the window to capture. When an orange dashed border appears around the window, click to select the highlighted area.

    • Capture the Fullscreen: Click the Fullscreen button to capture the entire screen.
    • Capture a Scrolling Window: Move the cursor over the window. Click an arrow to scroll vertically, horizontally, or scroll both directions to capture the content in the window.

      Note: Scrolling capture is not available in the App Store version. To capture a scrolling web page, see Web Capture: An Alternative to Scrolling Capture.
  5. To adjust the selection:
    • To resize the selection, drag a handle in or out.

    • To enter a specific size, double-click the current dimensions and enter a custom width and height in pixels.

    • To move the selection on the screen, click within the highlighted area and drag the selection to a new location. 
  6. Click the Capture Image button to finalize the capture when capturing the entire screen, a window, or a region.

The image capture opens in Snagit Editor where you can preview, edit, and share the capture.
