Learn how to create and save gradients to add visual interest to images and picture-in-picture videos.

Apply gradients to your images or picture-in-picture video recordings to add visual interest or to incorporate multiple brand colors.

You can apply gradients to:

  • Image canvas color
  • Shape, Callout, and Fill tools
  • Camera borders for picture-in-picture video recordings

Create a Gradient

  1. Click a color preview to open the color picker.

  1. In the color picker, select the Gradient tab.
  2. Select a gradient style from the dropdown:
    • Linear: The color transitions from one side or corner to another. To set the direction of the gradient, enter an angle value in degrees, click the dial, or drag the dial.
    • Radial: The color transitions from the center of the image outward.
  3. Click a color preview to open the color picker for the first stop (the color at one end of the gradient).

Select Gradient Colors

In the stop color picker, complete one of the following to select a color:

  1. Click to select a color from the palette.
    Tip: Drag the color spectrum slider to change the colors on the palette.
  2. Click the Eyedropper button and then click to select a color from anywhere on the screen.
  3. Enter a Hex (hexadecimal) color code or RGB (red, green, blue) values.
  4. Enter A (alpha channel or opacity) as a percentage or drag the opacity slider.
  5. Click to select a color from the current theme colors. See Snagit Themes.

Gradient stop color picker

Click the color preview for the second gradient stop and select a color.

Tip: Save your gradient to reuse.

In the color picker, click the + under My Gradients to save your gradient.
