Camtasia Studio 5 Tutorial: Customize Playback Controls and End Actions

Learn how to add options in the video’s playback controls to allow your viewers to display closed captioning, view the video at full screen, and quickly link to Camtasia Studio and Screencast.com through the context menu. Learn how to set the end actions to occur when the video finishes playing.

Access the Playback Control and End Action Options

  1. Choose the Produce video as option in the Task List.
  2. The Production Wizard appears. Choose the Custom production settings option and click Next.
  3. Choose SWF/FLV option and click Next.
  4. On the Flash Templates screen, choose ExpressShow or ExpressShow with TOC from the Template dropdown list.
  5. Click the Flash Options button.
  6. The Flash Options dialog box appears. Select the Controls tab to change the playback control options and end actions.

Playback Control Options

Check any of the following options on the Controls tab to customize the playback controls available within the video file:

  • Pause at start: Starts the video paused.

  • Allow resizing and Full screen: Allows viewers to expand the video to full screen.

You must select the Embed Video into HTML option on the Video Options screen to expand the video to full screen.

  • Captions initially visible: Viewers can click the Closed Caption icon to display the captioning for the video.

To enable this feature, you must select the Overlay and Display options on the Captions page. To access these options, choose Camtasia Studio > Task List > Captions > enable the Overlay and Display options. To learn how to add captioning, see the Add Captioning tutorial on the Learning Center.

  • Camtasia Studio context menu: Displays the “Powered by Screencast.com” and “Created with Camtasia Studio” options when a viewer right clicks within the video.

End Action Options

The end action options define the action to occur when the video ends. Choose any of the following end actions from the Controls tab in the Flash Options dialog box:

  • Stop: The video stops and displays the last frame of the video with a Replay button.
  • Jump to URL: Opens the URL entered in the viewer’s default browser. Select which browser window the URL should open in:
    • _self: the current frame in the current window
    • _blank: a new window
    • _parent: the parent of the current frame
    • _top: the top-level frame in the current window
  • Go to time: Jumps to a specific time in the recording. Check the Pause after seeking option to pause the video at the time entered in this field.
